The Institutional Equity Division (IED) is a global leader in the origination, distribution and trading of equity, equity-linked and equity-derivative securities. The Firm's equity Sales & Trading operations provide liquidity, distribute content, and create product solutions to help our clients generate alpha. The Equity Financing Products department acts as a strategic partner to more than 800 top hedge fund managers: executing and clearing trades across asset classes, time zones, and currencies; providing financing and expertise to help manage risk and benefit from technology; and consults to help launch new funds and connect with them potential investors.

Position Description:

The Morgan Stanley Institutional Equity Division (IED) is a global leader in the origination, distribution and trading of equity, equity-linked and equity-derivative securities. The Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS) group within IED, creates rules-based investment strategies that provide our clients with a wide range of exposures.

We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist with at least 2 years of experience to join the QIS Strats team in Montreal. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Global QIS data platform team, working on innovative projects and leveraging data to drive insights and solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and enhance dashboards for data and index telemetry as well as insights for Sales, Trading and Management.
  • Work with various data providers (internal and external) to acquire and analyze datasets.
  • Gain expertise on datasets and help develop intelligent quality checks.
  • Responsible for maintenance and governance around data quality and index publication.
  • Partner with the Technology data platform teams to drive scalable and reliable solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Structuring, QIS Strats and the Technology teams to build Python toolkits and custom data adaptors for the research platform.
  • Active involvement in the automation and streamlining of data workflows.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in data science or a related field
  • Advanced degree in Statistics/Computer Science/Math/Engineering or related fields
  • Proficiency in Python, Pandas, and Numpy
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, and general development principles, such as unit testing
  • Strong interest and demonstrated experience in data science and quantitative domains.
  • Comfortable with UNIX/Linux
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with equity or fixed income markets / financial market awareness
  • Knowledge of KDB/Q
  • Knowledge of Java
  • Experience with visualization and dashboards.
