Department Profile
The Fixed Income Division is comprised of Interest Rate and Currency Products, Credit Products and Distribution. Professionals in the Division assess and actively manage risk, trade securities, and structure as well as execute innovative transactions in the fast-paced and constantly changing global markets. Morgan Stanley aligns its municipal investment banking, underwriting, sales, trading, lending, and M&A advisory in one integrated organizational group under the umbrella of the Municipal Securities Division.
Background on the Team
Within Municipal Securities, the Public Finance Investment Banking group raises capital to fund projects for public sector entities and not-for-profit institutions in the United States. The group plans financial strategies and structures tax-exempt and taxable offerings along with derivative solutions to meet the needs of wide variety of important public organizations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Public Finance Banking Quantitative Support: assist with quantitative, financial, and credit analyses for the department's clients; evaluate potential financing and refinancing opportunities; prepare peer group credit analyses
- Client Presentations: assist with developing client-facing presentation materials and RFP responses to pitch financing ideas and support business development
- Transaction Management: leverage internal systems and liaise with bankers and support functions to complete internal client onboarding, transaction approval, and compliance documentation processes
- Data Analysis & Visualization: dissect, understand, and present business metrics data including volumes, market share, league table rankings, PnL, and capital commitments
- Management Reporting & COO Functions: assist on ad hoc projects or analyses for the Municipal Securities COO team, including business analytics and business planning
Skills Desired
- Undergraduate degree in a Quantitative field (Economics, Finance, Maths etc.)
- Min. 1-5 of relevant work experience
- Basic knowledge of Fixed Income Credit products and compliance requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and thorough
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to work collaboratively on group projects and independently on individual assignments
- Ability to think creatively and strategically in a dynamic and often ambiguous work environment
- Proactive and results-oriented mindset
