Our company's Animal Health is currently looking for a self-motivated Scientist with exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills to join the Livestock Diagnostic Laboratory located in Lawrence, KS. Referred to as the Lawrence Lab, the Livestock Diagnostic Lab is a small team of dedicated and energetic scientists that thrive on variety and constantly increasing their knowledge and laboratory skills. 40,000+ samples ranging from small molecule pharmaceuticals to animal serum are tested by the lab each year with results communicated directly to our company's Animal Health Sales and Technical Services teams as well as outside customers. The results communicated by the Lawrence Lab are used to confirm pharmaceutical product and vaccine effectiveness as well as support R&D studies on new products being developed to ensure animal health and well-being. The scientist will have the opportunity to become part of a successful laboratory team and to build a powerful network in a premier animal health company.

Primary Responsibilities Include but not limited to:
- Independently perform chemistry and biological testing on various sample types ranging from medicated feed to animal serum. The position requires a thorough understanding of the principles underlying the testing procedures and use of instrumentation and software used in testing.
- Responsible for performing laboratory testing in a safe, accurate and timely manner using good documentation and quality practices found in a GXP environment.
- Must approach work in collaborative way and thrive in a team atmosphere and be able to train laboratory technicians as needed.
- Able to manage multiple tasks beyond laboratory testing as needed (e.g. purchasing reagents and consumables, preventive maintenance and calibration of instrumentation, etc.)
Qualifications
Education Minimum Requirement:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- AS or Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related science field preferred.
Required Experience and Skills*:
- 1 - 2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
- Strong working knowledge of biology and/or chemistry testing methodologies (i.e. HPLC, ELISA, Microscopy, etc.)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to utilize the entire Microsoft Suite
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Committed to working in a collaborative manner across functional areas in a matrix organization.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong problem-solving skills
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Working knowledge of GXPs, quality systems and animal health industry guidance's (FDA, USDA, AAVLD, etc.)
- Experience with virus, cell lines and cell culture
- Experience with laboratory software such as LIMS, Empower, Gen5, etc.
