Director, MPS Management Systems Office (MSO)

Position:
The Production Systems (MPS) is an integrated production system for how we design, manage, and continuously improve our operations and supporting business processes, enabled through the development of our people. Under the direction of the Vice President of Operational Excellence, and with Regional MPS Leaders and senior management across the business, the Manufacturing Division MPS Team is responsible for driving MPS throughout the organization to enable change in the operating systems, management systems, and mindsets, behaviors and capabilities of our people to produce products at the highest quality, lowest cost, and shortest lead time. Due to the nature of the work and broad diversity of operating sites, expected travel will be up to 50% with activities spread across shop floor and business process support.

Manufacturing Division MPS Director Description of Duties:
- As a member of the Global MPS Leadership Team, oversee the MPS Management Systems Office and lead a team of technical experts tasked with developing, standardizing and sustaining all MPS global standards
- Partner and consult with Global MPS leadership and technical leads, functional leaders, plant management and other key stakeholders to develop plans and execute MPS standards improvement when necessary
- Oversee a broad portfolio and maintain linkage of objectives to the highest division priorities
- Directs the MPS Development Program to accelerate MPS capabilities of designated key talent
- Owner of the Manufacturing Division Business Process Sustainment Model
- Fully manage MPS Assessment programs & autonomously carry out MPS Assessments within the business & report results
- An innovator andleading industry expert in lean management systems and standards and use the knowledge and experience to foresee global market and economic trends, and work with leaders to create industry-leading strategies to take advantage of these trends
Manufacturing Division MPS Director Responsibilities & Capabilities:
- Independently lead, experiment, and validate both site and above site improvement activities and systemize new applications or works within the MPS Management System and Standards
- Utilize various tools, techniques, and a way of thinking in conjunction with the House of MPS to diagnose, analyze and improve business processes
- Provide teaching and coaching to effectively transfer Lean skills into the organization for the development of Lean Leaders
- High level of Change Management Expertise enabling coaching and development of others to ensure all MMSO activities include appropriate SRF (change management) methods and risk mitigation approaches. Support all areas of the Business with Change Execution Management guidance no matter what the program content
- Lead the development and evolution of the GMPS operating model and establish internal systems and processes to continuously improve
- Lead extensive benchmarking activity to gain consistent, yearly intelligence on Lean and MPS activities within the pharmaceutical industry and other industries leading MPS deployment (Automotive etc.). Use this intelligence to reflect on MPS strategies to improve and accelerate their deployment & effectiveness
- Proactively recognize and mitigate barriers to cross-functional initiatives and can act as an intermediary across divisional, geographical, and cultural boundaries.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and challenging the status quo, while driving departmental/regional strategies that align with long-term strategy.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively scope, assign tasks and allocate resources for meeting goals within projected budget. Demonstrate the ability to create accountability among team members to drive on-time delivery of support services.
- Lead deep process analysis through value stream mapping to measure current process capability, identify process gaps that interrupt workflow and lead kaizen to improve process performance
- Lead and coach kaizen with a team to achieve multiple target conditions to achieve an overall challenge
- Build trust and develop new relationships with internal and external clients to effectively collaborate and achieve successful outcomes at a regional/global
- Mentor others on effective communication and active listening techniques to fully understand client and customer needs and expectations
- Provide support system for direct reports and continuously develop their technical, managerial, and leadership skills
Qualifications/Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or related field
- Greater than 10 years' experience leading deployment of Lean/Toyota-based Production System(s)
- Experience analyzing end-to-end supply chains and complex business processes while driving significant, step-change process improvement
- Demonstrated hands-on application of foundational Lean tools and techniques: standardized work, scientific problem solving, value stream mapping, mistake proofing, SMED, 5S-Visual Factory
- Advanced capabilities in key leadership skills to include strategic planning, networking & partnerships, execution excellence, influence and change catalyst
- Experience applying consultative skills: ability to interact with all levels of the business (senior leaders to shop floor working teams), project management skills (demonstrated experience in managing large teams), solid business acumen, proven team building skills, exceptionally good listening skills, process focused, results driven, strong analytical skills, and significant process improvement experience
- Coaching, Teaching, and driving a high-performance organization. Proven experience in coaching and teaching others to think, behave and apply lean methods and tools. Experience enabling and leveraging diverse perspectives, talents, etc. to achieve business outcomes
- Transformative and ambitious with proven experience standardizing and sustaining enterprise-wide processes
Preferred:
- Excellent skills using IT applications to organize and analyze date (MS-Access, MS-Excel, Minitab, MS-PowerPoint, MS-Visio, Jira
- Experience in operations management, manufacturing, or related disciplines.
- Experience in a Small Molecule, Laboratories, Vaccines, Biologics & Sterile manufacturing or supporting processes in a pharmaceutical environment.
