The American Girl Retail team is integral in providing lifetime memories to American Girl fans and their families. Our experiential retail stores provide shopping destinations like no other. This requires Innovation, Collaboration and Execution from all who are a part of this division. Our in-store experiences range depending on location from Girl and Doll Salons, Full-Service Restaurants, Personal Shopping, Ear Piercing (Girl and Doll), hosting Parties/Celebrations to name a few. The Opportunity: 
The Store Director is located at the AG Retail Flagship Los Angeles location and reports directly to the Sr. Director AG Retail Stores. They are responsible for the overall day-to-day operations and performance of American Girl Flagship Retail Store. Ensure that all departments operate effectively and efficiently in a manner consistent with the mission and objectives of American Girl. Ensure that customer service in this quality environment is the top priority and that all staff, systems, operations, and procedures reflect this philosophy. Plan for long-term needs, collaborating with other company executives involved in all functional areas. Responsible for delivering financial results per plan.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

Retail Strategy

  • Partner with Sr. Director of Retail and Retail Directors on all relevant functions to support and grow the business.
  • Establish a true collaborative partnership with all business partners and involve them in short- and long-range planning.
  • Manage Business Partnerships
  • Strategize plans and initiatives to enhance customer service and sales generation.
  • Create a team effort between the management and supervisory staff of the retail and restaurant elements to enhance the company’s brand strategy.
  • Regularly attend cross-channel meetings as a team member representing the retail channel.
  • Provide consumer insights to Brand, Design, and Creative and Marketing Communications teams.
  • Help establish annual revenue forecasts.

Store Management and Consumer Experience

  • Direct Business and Operational functions for AG Flagship Retail Store.
  • Oversee all daily operations of a multi-departmental facility to ensure that customer service standards, revenue, and policies/procedures reflect the company mission and that business needs are met.
  • Ensure exceptional customer experience throughout American Girl.
  • Manage change. Identify, develop, and implement policies, procedures, and systems to meet service standards with maximum efficiency. 
  • Daily review of departmental revenue to determine if goals are being met. React accordingly.
  • Daily control of store operations.
  • Maintain an appealing store brand ambience while providing a clean, safe environment.
  • Collaborate with Sr. Leadership and Store Management teams to determine short- and long-term business needs for revenue, P&L growth, staff, equipment, and facilities.
  • Establish procedures to minimize external and internal shrinkage.
  • Modify service policies and operational procedures to improve service experiences and efficiencies.
  • Notify PR Manager of publicity issues.
  • Notify Distribution Center of transportation, fulfillment, and replenishment issues.
  • Partner with Brand, Marketing, Purchasing, and Inventory Control of trends and opportunities.
  • Ensure timely communication through meetings, phone calls, and emails with corporate partners to share and follow up with relevant information.
  • Provide leadership for and constructive collaboration between the different program elements to provide a high-quality experience.
  • Direct Financial Planning and Execution.
  • Create project plans, timelines, and budgets for various projects and initiatives.
  • Actively Review and Manage store P & L monthly.

Team Leadership

  • Monitor and review job responsibilities and performance of management team.
  • Direct organizational development.
  • Communicate goals, service standards, and delegate responsibilities.
  • Build, train, and motivate staff to perform to company standards.
  • Provide regular performance feedback. Identify and address performance issues.
  • Write and conduct timely performance evaluations and complete CAP goals.
  • Provide opportunities for professional development.
  • Ensure that all recruiting efforts and training programs are in place to employ appropriate numbers of staff for peak and non-peak demands.
  • Lead succession plan for store organizational talent reviews.
  • Partner with Human Resources on training and development, policy, and procedures
  • Provides regular feedback, based on measurable such as sales results, visits, and surveys.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • BA/BS (4-Year College/ University Degree) in Business Management preferred
  • 7-10 Years of experience in retail management (premium, high-end preferred), restaurant exposure desirable
  • Must be willing to work a flexible retail schedule, including days, nights, and weekends.


The annual base salary range for this position is between $100,000.00 and $125,000.00.
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
