Overview:

The Foundational Services teams aim to provide common, high-performance, and easy-to-use solutions for cross-cutting concerns. We work closely with market-facing product engineering teams to help them take maximum advantage of these capabilities and to evolve our core platform to meet their needs and the needs of our customers.

We are looking for a Manager of Software Engineering who is excited to engage deeply with the core technologies we use, design and implement robust and secure "common code", and create a great development experience for other engineers through libraries, APIs, and tooling. As a member of our team, you would apply your skills to provide reusable solutions for all development teams in domains like authentication, caching, serving static assets, logging, error handling, build tooling, unit and integration testing, and scheduling asynchronous work.

Engineers work in small, flexible teams. Every team member contributes to designing, building, and testing features. There are no rigid organizational structures, and each team uses processes that work the best for that team members and projects

The Role

Responsibilities include the following:

• Managing a scrum team of Software Engineers to develop quality software solutions in a timely and cost-effective manner.
• Successfully lead the definition, development, and delivery of major cross-department initiatives with broad scope and long-term business implications.
• Provide technical leadership and direction to software development teams in the development of services and capabilities across the platform.
• Work closely with product and architecture teams on product definition, technical design, and overall execution for the team.

• Formally supervise, coach, and develop the team.

About You:

• Hands-on technical leader who brings considerable experience doing application development and managing teams by using a broad range of technologies.

• Strong programming skills with deep knowledge of .NET or Java, Rest APIs, and SQL Server.
• Hands-on, technical, and people leader who regularly dives deep into everything the team does.
• Demonstrate leadership, ethics, and values to generate high trust with the team, peers, and management.
• Must provide the necessary skills to have a high degree of initiative and self-motivation with a willingness and ability to learn and take on challenging opportunities.

• Has experience designing and implementing solutions focusing on non-functional concerns - Performance, Security, Scalability, Availability, Extensibility, Resiliency
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with strong relationship-building, collaborative skills, and organizational skills.
• Must be obsessed with results and effectively communicate objectives and how success will be measured to the team and other stakeholders.
• Have strong decision-making skills, lead retrospection, and continually improve.
- Understands how to guide an engineer's career including performance evaluation, coaching, and motivation.
• Must have expert-level knowledge of software development processes.
• BS in computer science or a related field.
