JOB SUMMARY
The functional safety engineer leads the functional safety activities for serial production programs, and provides assistance to the program team in delivering the work products of the safety case and in complying with ISO 26262.


JOB FUNCTIONS (ESSENTIAL)
• Tailors the safety case of the program in collaboration with the functional safety manager and the Technical Lead.
• Provides guidance and support to the program team in the development of their work products per the safety case in compliance with ISO 26262.

• Supports the functional safety manager in the development of the Development Interface Agreement (DIA) with the customer.
• Develops and owns the functional safety program plan in collaboration with the program manager.
• Provides guidance to the program team in the usage of ME's functional safety processes, templates, and guidelines as stated in GPEP.
• Supports the SW tools qualification process in support of the program in collaboration with the Quality team.
• Provides coaching to the program team in the interpretation of the relevant clauses of ISO 26262; solicits support from the functional safety manager in this area as necessary.
• Tracks the program's functional safety issues and drives for their closure.
• Supports the functional managers with the verifications reviews of the work products per GPEP and ISO 26262.
• Supports the functional safety manager in carrying out the Confirmation Measures per ISO 26262 (Confirmation Reviews, Safety Audit, and Safety Assessment)
• Provides coaching to the program's suppliers in the area of functional safety; solicits support from the functional manager in this area as necessary.
• Provides assessment of the program status in terms of functional safety to the functional safety manager.
• Participates in Phase Reviews and Gate Reviews.
• Establish Communication and exchange of information with The Quality Engineer.
• Adherence of all relevant company procedures, process models and systems.
• Signature policy compliance in respect to third party contact.
• Perform work assignments as a highly competent Functional Safety engineer, requiring independent design, implementation and testing of the control software components
• Work assignments primarily involve intermediate through advanced level work, moving toward complete technical competency and mastery of the field
• Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. Ensures that facilities are in full compliance with all safety regulations.
• Maintains regular attendance.
• Follows safe work procedures; Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); Uses workplace tools and equipment as instructed; Reports workplace hazards, injuries and illness as soon as possible following event.
• Complies with the requirements of Quality Operating System (QOS)


JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering/ Systems Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/ Computer Science or equivalent (Master's preferred)
• 4-8 years' relevant product and or technology experience regarding the Responsibility/ Activities (listed above) for automotive electronics serial development projects (mandatory).


Technical Knowledge
• Strong knowledge of ISO 26262
• experience with functional safety either in the automotive or aerospace industry a plus
• Solid background in systems engineering, electrical hardware engineering, or software engineering in the Automotive or Aerospace industry.
• Vehicle level experience is a plus.
• Experience with failure analysis techniques (FMEA, FTA, ...)
• Reliability engineering knowledge a plus.
• Comfortable in working with technical processes
• Experience in developing technical processes, procedures, guidelines, and templates a plus.
• Good communication skills; ability to explain concepts to other engineers.
• Coaching skills for technical processes.
