Position: Senior Manager, Engineering and Sustainability

Role Overview: Reporting to the Director, Engineering and Facilities Operations, this position directs and coordinates activities of the engineering department and contract services to operate and maintain all plant and related facility, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems ensuring the highest level of efficiency and reliability. This position also is responsible for developing and implementing strategies, initiatives and programs that ensure Lincoln Center, and the Performing Arts and constituents meet their sustainability-related goals and commitments.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Direct activities in preventative maintenance, operation, and upgrades of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety and vertical circulation systems to maximize the provision of these services in an efficient, cost-effective and code compliant manner.
  • Direct labor assignments and scheduling of engineers and mechanics including the oversight of payroll management.
  • Establish and monitor bench-marking criteria and performance standards to provide the appropriate level of engineering services and staffing.
  • Monitor contract services within areas of purview to ensure conformance to scope, schedule, budget and quality of service delivery.
  • Lead and direct large complex capital projects of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, ensuring quality of work and adherence to scheduling, quality and budget demands.
  • Support the Director of Engineering and Facilities Operations with forecasting operating costs of engineering department expenses, preparation of fiscal budget requests as well as constituent billing practices.
  • Employee Development - Work with the People Support Team and the Associate Director of Fire and Safety Operations to develop and maintain departmental employee training opportunities and sustainability guidelines for operators, engineers, trade, and porter teams.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of the Central Mechanical Plant. Provide support and oversight for the Rose Building Mechanical Plant, all pertinent mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire safety systems in David Geffen Hall; Alice Tully Hall and the Rose Building utilities management and distribution; utilities procurement and monitoring support; campus vertical transportation contract maintenance; code compliance.
  • Works with and oversees design consultants, engineers, contractors on feasibility studies, design and implementation efforts, and construction projects.
  • Reviews and evaluates Building Management Systems and equipment performance through field inspections, data analysis, etc. Presents on and makes recommendations around issues with system performance and measures to optimize such performance.

Energy and Sustainability Responsibilities:

  • Influence and inspire leadership toward achieving LCPA's sustainability and resilience goals, consistent with LCPA's mission and vision statements.
  • Provide leadership and expertise for sustainability, monitoring emerging trends, programs, and issues, and communicating and educating others on sustainability topics.
  • Develop the metrics for tracking LCPA carbon footprint and facilitate the implementation of programs to reduce LCPA carbon footprint.
  • Develops and manages energy projects with the goal of improving efficiency and reducing overall carbon footprint.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and institutional goals with respect to energy and sustainability.
  • Manages, tracks and reports on progress made with respect to NYC local law and regulatory compliance, including lighting system upgrades, energy audits, and retro commissioning.
  • Supports the Director of Engineering and Facility Operations with a master planning effort for long-term campus energy goals and capital planning around the NYC Local Law 97.

Qualifications (Required):

  • 5+ years' experience in management and operation of major mechanical electrical, plumbing and fire safety systems and/or 5+ years in Energy Sustainability management role.
  • Advanced understanding of the principles of sustainable design, building science, environmental analysis, energy modeling, carbon neutrality, zero carbon, and embodied carbon.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in managing building operations of large and complex facilities, steam and chilled water plants, fire-alarm, and life safety systems.
  • Strong written, oral and presentation skills
  • Self-starter with demonstrated leadership, responsiveness, and accountability.
  • High proficiency computer skills; including knowledge of BMS computer-based systems and software applicable to physical plant operations, MS Project, AutoCAD Design software, proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Flexibility with work hours sometimes including early morning/late night or weekend hours.

Training/Skills Experience (Preferred):

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, architecture, applied science, environmental science, or related field.
  • Relevant Certification within the Engineering or Energy field such as Certified Energy Manager, Professional Engineer, Certified Building Energy Auditor, etc. Certified Energy Manager (CEM) a plus.
  • Demonstrated managerial skills - experience with contract and unionized labor.
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of building automation systems, sequence of operations, lighting controls, and energy management systems.
  • Familiarity with energy management, design and implementation of programs, or environmental research.
  • Understanding of building energy systems and energy efficiency technologies.
  • Knowledge of energy savings calculations and emissions calculation methodologies.
