Liberty Mutual US Retail Markets Technology is seeking a Solutions Architect for the Insurance Professional Sales Experience portfolio within the Distribution domain. Our portfolio is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the current state and target state sales experience used by independent agents to quote and issue Safeco-branded insurance products as well as the target state sales experience used by internal Direct Response Center (DRC) agents to quote and issue Liberty Mutual-branded insurance products.

As the Solutions Architect for the Insurance Professional Sales Experience portfolio, you will develop and iteratively refine our technology roadmap to align with our north star architecture standards and patterns. You will leverage your knowledge of architecture and software design best practices to provide leadership, guidance and oversight for the design and implementation of sales experiences with a focus on tech stacks comprised of AWS, Angular/Orleans/.NET and React/Apollo GraphQL/TypeScript. You will create, review and provide input to designs and engineering plans to optimize non-functional requirements, ensure consistency with strategic technical direction, and alignment to business needs, goals and priorities. You will build strong relationships with aligned engineering teams while coaching and mentoring the most senior engineers within your portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the development of technology strategy and technology roadmaps that enable the business, usually for a specific business capability domain.
  • Provides consultation and collaborates with Engineering Managers, business partners and peer groups regarding long and short-range product features. Provides oversight at the business capability domain level, influencing decision-making and prioritizing the business and architecture backlog for the aligned development squads.
  • Educates and drives adoption of the well-architected framework to champion Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, and Cost Optimization as cultural norms.
  • Contributes to the design and development of architecture (integrated process, methodology, framework, software/applications, data, information, and technology) scalable solutions to business problems in alignment with the enterprise architecture direction and standards.
  • Influences and partners with the Product Owners and engineering teams to align the technical design and strategy with the product roadmap.
  • Aligns solution engineering with technology options and enterprise architecture work to ensure sound roadmaps that deliver business value.
  • Responsible for prototyping complex, cross-platform business solutions to validate newer technologies. Reviews and ensures major architectural designs are consistent, maintainable, flexible, and cost-effective solutions. Participates with application and infrastructure design architects to guide development and releases.
  • Maintains collaborative and strategic partnerships between customers, vendors, business partners, and technology teams.
  • Share expertise ensuring that teams are continuously improving and learning together to meet current and future engineering and architecture needs.
Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of agile development methodologies as typically acquired through a bachelor's or master's degree in a technical or business discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in technical discipline; master's preferred.
  • Minimum 10 + years of relevant engineering experience in Agile environments.
  • Minimum 5+ years of design, implementation, and consulting experience with at least 2+ years' experience implementing solutions on AWS.
  • Hands-on design and development experience with React/GraphQL/TypeScript and/or Angular/Orleans/.NET.
  • Hands on solutioning in AWS.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, cloud networking, cloud migration, cloud security, and application integration.
  • Experience automating cloud infrastructure with CloudFormation, CDK, and/or similar products and services.
  • Experience in insurance or financial services preferred.
  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification or other equivalent industry certification preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of layered solutions and designs; in-depth understanding of shared software concepts and product features
  • In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives, and strategies
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; strong presentation skills
  • Strong influencing and consensus-building skills
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization and with co-workers of diverse backgrounds.
