The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

The Executive Compensation Programs team is looking for a Principal Compensation Specialist II to support the design and development of Liberty Mutual's compensation programs which align to our strategic goals.
This highly visible role will leverage prior experience to effectively influence our compensation strategy, bringing knowledge and expertise in areas such as equity and deferred compensation. You will play a critical role in providing high-touch support to our executive population throughout their career lifecycle, advising on complex situations and balancing the individual needs of each executive with the overall goals of the organization. Reporting to the Director, Executive Comp Programs, you will partner closely with the rest of the Global Compensation Team, Legal, Finance, and other key stakeholders to lead enterprise-wide strategic initiatives while delivering exceptional customer service and fostering collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Provides expertise in all areas of compensation including but not limited to market trends and best practices, short and long-term incentive plan design, deferred compensation, and market data analysis.
- Independently leads enterprise-wide strategic initiatives and special projects, effectively collaborating across peers and stakeholder groups to ensure deliverables are met on time and in support of business priorities and goals.
- Provides consultation to executive population, acting as plan/program expert and providing timely and accurate information supported by thorough research and detailed analysis.
- Acts as a strategic compensation partner, trusted advisor, and analytic and data expert for Compensation partners, Talent team and senior business leaders.
- Independently conducts complex analyses to support variety of ad-hoc requests including M&A, finance and tax needs.
- Handles multiple concurrent and diverse initiatives. Independently and proactively addresses potential conflicts that impact current delivery commitments. Re-prioritizes work and reschedules as necessary. Responds to shifting priorities while maintaining progress of regularly scheduled work.
- Proactively identifies opportunities to redefine and streamline processes. Partners with key stakeholders to develop and implement changes and recommend best practices.
- Bachelor`s degree (preferably in Human Resources or Business Administration) or equivalent experience required
- 8-10 years of compensation experience, external experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of compensation programs and practices, including the ability to analyze and interpret complex compensation data
- Strong executive presence and ability to work closely with senior executives
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with ability to articulate complex concepts; strong presentation skills.
- Experience in project management, including scoping, planning, and executing projects
- Demonstrates high level of business, analytical, and financial acumen, with ability to learn complex concepts quickly.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities, including the ability to clearly define problems, collect data, draw conclusions, and influence others to implement recommendations.
- Ability to work well in a fast paced, time sensitive environment. Strong attention to detail and deadlines, effective at managing multiple priorities and addressing competing viewpoints.
- Displays strong PC skills, to include Excel and PowerPoint
