Description and Requirements

The incumbent will be responsible for the end-to-end strategy and operations for Japan including 1.) building a robust go-to-market plan to consistently deliver on business objectives for the Mobile Business in Japan 2.) maximize and develop new customer relationships; 3.) manage complete P&L responsibility and 4.) further increase Motorola's footprint across the region by identifying & leveraging new market opportunities. The leader will own and drive the overall business performance & growth for the Motorola smartphone portfolio in the region while ensuring a sustainable profitability.

As the face of Motorola Mobility in Japan, She/he will be responsible for engaging with key stakeholders across customers, partners, and press/media an. She/he will build a strong & strategic relationship network across the Retail, Operators and the key Ecommerce players in Japan.

Driving the Lenovo's values and building an inclusive culture with integrity & trust would be key to success. She/He will directly lead the talent strategy to manage a diverse, engaged and motivated employee base to deliver both the short-term and long-term success of Motorola MBG in the region.

The person will work closely with the other members of the Asia Pacific team and Motorola head office and will be expected to contribute broadly to the strategic and tactical success of the business .

Key Responsibilities

Business Strategy & driving transformation

• Create and communicate a compelling vison for Japan aligned to the overall global strategy.

• Develop and manage a region-wide growth plan - including top line, bottom line and market share.

• Work closely with internal stakeholders (finance, operations, services delivery) to manage and measure results, identify trends and take any corrective action.

• Ensure the most effective and efficient organizational set-up to deliver business targets and other Key Performance Indicators. (e.g., Customer Satisfaction, Employee engagement).

• Build strong relationships with the key operators viz softbank and Docomo in Japan and get ranging into them

• Build relations with Strategic Partners and Alliances like Qualcomm Japan to develop new business opportunities in the market.

• Suggest investments & partnerships to strengthen Motorola presence & business in the region

• Drive transformation and strategic initiatives aligned with Lenovo's overall strategy of services & solutions growth

• Understand the overall industry & market trends and align strategy to drive business growth & shareholder value.

Sales Leadership

• Drive the overall sales across the Mobile portfolio including development and implementation of a Sales strategy and structure to meet Revenue, Margin and Market Share growth in the market.

• Enable sales transformation and create Non Phone revenue opportunities in Japan

• Communicate with, align and manage matrix stakeholders to garner support required for sustainable business results.

• Lead the strategy for balanced business results across operators and retailers

• Own resolution of customer escalations.

• Represent Lenovo/Motorola in customer and partner meetings, conferences, and events.

Business Operations

• Direct the preparation, communication, and execution of operating objectives, plans and programs

• Lead region reviews with business leaders and stakeholders and drive a strong operational cadence.

• Drive alignment and implementation of Motorola's company-wide initiatives.

• Manage operating expenses to deliver sustained profitability

• Accurately forecast budget achievements and develop timely mitigation plans as required.

Talent Leadership

• Lead the talent strategy for Japan to build and develop a strong & committed team through succession planning and talent acquisition.

• Set clear performance management expectations to measure and act upon.

• Reinforce Lenovo's culture and employee experience and drive employee engagement initiatives.

• Coach, develop and challenge team leaders and team members to exceed expectations, maintain high engagement and realize their full potential.

• Provide 2-way regular communication channel for employees through forums all Hands, business updates, round tables, skip level meetings.

Drive Innovation through Collaboration and market sensing

• Foster engagement and collaboration with other functional areas e.g., Product, Marketing, Technology, Customer Success to drive new thinking and opportunities.

• Work closely with the marketing function to evaluate market trends and dynamics, competitor activities and customer requirements to keep Lenovo as a market leader.

• Identify opportunities and challenges for the Japan market and collaborate with relevant global functions to address market needs.

Fiduciary

• Fiduciary responsibilities such that business is transacted in accordance with Lenovo's revenue recognition policy, code of ethics and integrity and the highest standard of business conduct.

Customer Advocacy

• Lead with a strong customer orientation and focus; Be an advocate for the customers in both internal and external conversations.

• Fostering company loyalty through leadership of a strong customer experience team.

• Represent Lenovo to the extent appropriate in Government Relations, industry associations, chambers, media etc.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate is an energetic leader with successful experience in a technology solutions organization.

In summary she/he should have the following experience:

・ Industry expertise: Experience with Smartphone company

・ Commercial: Strong understanding of P and L management. Proven track record is preferable

・ Sales Leadership: Demonstrable track record in sales organizations to drive growth in revenue, margin and market share.

・Strategic Planning & Execution: Applies deep knowledge of the economy and understanding of market trends / transitions to orchestrate development of strategic plans to advance company goals and business objectives.

・ International Experience: Preferable global matrix organization and ability to work collaboratively across a matrixed reporting structure.

・ Partner Centric: Demonstrable affinity with and ability to work through an extensive and diverse partner and channel eco-system.

・ Integrity: Should be high on integrity, compliance, ethics and value systems.

・ Leadership: Exceptional abilities in leading and managing teams. Strong communication skills, able to build strong alignment and inspire a large and diverse workforce; Strong focus on developing talent and capable of leading through Influence; Demonstrates the ability to lead, manage or enlist the support of others in the absence of formal authority; Has the potential to grow into an international leadership position.

・ Operator Relationships: Has a wide network and is excellent at leveraging C-Level relationships across top Japanese operators like Docomo and Softbank.
