Description and Requirements
You Will:
We are seeking a skilled Backup and Storage Engineer with hands-on experience in Veeam Backup, Veritas Backup, and storage management. The candidate will play a crucial role in managing the organization's backup infrastructure and storage environments, ensuring data availability, security, and optimal performance across multiple sites. The role requires flexibility for occasional weekend and after-hours support, as well as travel between various locations.
Key Responsibilities
Backup Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage backup and recovery solutions using Veeam Backup & Replication and Veritas Backup Exec/NetBackup.
- Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot backup systems, ensuring they are running efficiently and that data is protected.
- Conduct routine and ad-hoc backups, verifying data integrity and meeting compliance requirements.
- Test and document disaster recovery plans, ensuring systems can be restored rapidly in case of failures or disasters.
- Perform system upgrades and patching for backup solutions, ensuring compatibility with the overall infrastructure.
Storage Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and manage storage systems (SAN, NAS, DAS) across multiple environments, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Monitor storage utilization and capacity, optimizing storage allocation and planning for future growth.
- Troubleshoot and resolve storage-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum performance.
- Implement storage provisioning for various platforms (Windows, Linux, Unix, VMware), ensuring efficient data access.
- Ensure storage security by managing encryption, access control, and data integrity protocols.
- Document storage configurations and procedures, ensuring the technical documentation is up to date.
General Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of storage and backup systems with the wider IT infrastructure.
- Perform regular maintenance and upgrades of backup and storage environments, following best practices to minimize downtime.
- Provide support outside of regular business hours (including weekends) for emergency troubleshooting, planned maintenance, and disaster recovery operations.
- Travel to multiple sites for on-site support, installations, and storage/backup-related troubleshooting.
You Bring:
- Hands-on experience with Veeam Backup & Replication and Veritas Backup Exec/NetBackup solutions.
- Strong knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN, NAS, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and their interaction with storage systems.
- Proficiency in storage management tools and practices, including RAID configuration, storage tiering, and volume management.
- Familiarity with data replication, data migration, and disaster recovery techniques.
- Knowledge of storage security measures, including encryption, access control, and secure data disposal.
- Scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python, or similar) for managing backup and storage tasks are a plus.
- Flexibility to work on multiple sites and handle after-hours support, including weekends.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to handle critical incidents under pressure.
- Strong documentation and communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in Veeam, Veritas, or storage technologies (e.g., NetApp, EMC, HPE).
- Experience with cloud-based storage and backup solutions.
- Familiarity with data retention, archiving, and compliance standards.
