The Leidos National Security Sector is seeking a a Technical Writer for assignment with the Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC Inc 2) Enduring Shield missile defense system in Huntsville, AL. This position will help facilitate the design, development, testing, document, training and qualification of a US Army mobile, ground-based weapon system designed to defeat subsonic cruise missiles, unmanned aircraft systems, rockets, artillery, and mortars, and other aerial threats as required. The successful candidate will work with a small team of ILS professionals, subject matter experts, engineering, and training experts to write documentation to be used in paper-based documentation and interactive documents (IADs), Responsibilities may include writing training courseware (eLearning) in accordance with US Army TRADOC regulations.

The Challenge:
This position is responsible for developing and implementing content directed at developing competencies, technical skills, and increased understanding of a wide variety of documentation and training resource materials. Duties may include collaborating with other functions and subject matter experts to ensure that materials reflect current best practices and processes.
IMPACT: Works independently to achieve day-to-day objectives with significant impact on operational results or project deliverables. Responsible for entire projects or processes within a professional area.
COMPLEXITY: Problems are unclear and may require understanding of a broader set of issues and may be difficult. Develops solutions to problems and issues that are unclear and require thorough analyses and understanding of domain knowledge.
COMMUNICATION: Communicates with internal and client project team members. Works to influence team members regarding solution design, process and/or approaches.
Reporting progress of all assigned tasks to the project lead.

Primary Responsibilities
Develop technical documentation in eXtensable Markup Language (XML) using Arbortext Editor authoring software to publish PDFs. Tag XML documents for the Army IADS Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) viewer or equivalent Electronic Technical Manual (ETM) and Interactive Electronic Technical Publication (IETP).
Experience developing US Army or other DoD (optional) technical publications, including Repair Parts and Special Tools List (RPSTL), Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWR), and IETMs (Operator, Sustainment and Depot).
Ability to read, comprehend and interpret engineer drawings.
Navigate program software identifying relevant system components.
Provide technical writing, document preparation, editing, proofreading, and coordination consistent with customer practices for the development and production of project deliverables.
Ensure compliance with MIL-STD-2361, MIL-STD-40051 and MIL-HDBK-1222.
As requested, work with project and customer staff in the formulation, development, and editing of project documentation, deliverables, and training documentation to ensure alignment with project requirements.
Participate in peer reviews, Validations, Verifications, and Logistics Maintenance Demonstration events to ensure accuracy, usability, and compliance of IETMs/eLearning.
WHAT SETS YOU APART:
Bachelor's degree and 8 or more years of prior relevant experience; or a master's degree and 6 or more years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of experience can be considered in lieu of degree
Experienced Knowledge of XML (structured documents)
Proficient user of Microsoft's Office 365 suite of software and applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Microsoft's SharePoint
Excellent written communication skills
Demonstrated experience working within matrixed teams
Must be able to obtain an interim Secret Clearance within 120 days of hiring if no current secret clearance.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $63,700.00 - $115,150.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
