Job Summary:

Are you up for a real challenge? We're seeking a resilient and adventurous Systems Engineer ready to take on the unexpected. This role involves travel 3 to 4 times per year to remote and unpredictable locations where you'll often encounter rugged living conditions. If you have a knack for problem-solving and a taste for adventure, and you're undeterred by the prospect of tackling complex projects in less-than-ideal environments, then this is the opportunity for you. You'll provide comprehensive engineering lifecycle support for complex data systems and networks, contributing to high-impact projects and leading systems engineering efforts. Prove your strength and make a significant impact in the wilds of technology!

Responsibilities:

  • System/Sub-system Design and Integration: Design systems and subsystems based on requirements, and perform large-scale integration tasks, including the assembly and configuration of racks and stacks.
  • Rack Elevation, Cabling, and Optical Fiber Systems: Create detailed rack elevation and cabling designs, and apply knowledge of optical fiber systems and cabling (e.g., Corning, Multimode vs. Singlemode, MTP-12 fibers) to maintain fiber-optic infrastructure.
  • Software Loading, Configuration, and Testing: Load, configure, and maintain software on various hardware systems. Conduct thorough testing at both unit and end-to-end levels, including Developmental Test & Evaluation (DT&E) phases 1 and 2, and Operational Assessment Test & Evaluation (OATE).
  • Technical Documentation and Training: Develop comprehensive technical manuals and collaborate with technical writers to produce high-quality documentation. Design and deliver subsystem and system-level training for technical staff and end-users.
  • Linux System Management and Troubleshooting: Utilize knowledge of Linux operating systems (RedHat, CentOS, Rocky) for system administration and troubleshooting. Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills for both hardware (e.g., servers, switches) and software (e.g., bash, python) issues.
  • Microsoft Productivity Applications: Utilize Microsoft productivity applications (Excel, Visio) for data analysis, visualization, and documentation.
  • Strong Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills with hardware and software, ensuring efficient and effective issue resolution.

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a Qualified Engineering Field or a related discipline from an accredited college or university plus ten (10) years of systems engineering experience. OR A High School Diploma or GED plus fourteen (14) years of general systems engineering experience (any process area). OR A Masters Degree and eight (8) years of System Engineering Experience.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Visio)
  • Ability to travel 3-4 times a year (up to 14 days/trip) in challenging conditions
