Description
The Leidos Innovation Center (LInC) Quantum Incubator has an opening for a Photonics Layout Intern to further advance our integrated circuit process design kit (PDK). The Engineer will take the lead in designing and developing PDKs for a variety of internal quantum technologies, while also utilizing existing commercial Foundry PDKs. This will enable Leidos circuit designers to create advanced, high-performance capabilities. In this position, the engineer will collaborate closely with circuit designers and test engineers to understand requirements and provide the necessary support to ensure successful completion of project goals and tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Write Python scripts to create CAD capabilities
- Write skill-based P-Cells
- Develop PDK technical files/documentation and design verification rule files
- Create PDK documentation
- Work closely with the Quantum Technologies team for designing integrated circuits

Basic Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a BS program in computer science, physics, engineering, or related fields
- Strong proficiency in Python programming
- Experience working with GDS Factory or similar design tools
- Familiarity with PDKs, semiconductor or nanofabrication processing, and packaging of photonic integrated circuits
- Experience generating scripts (Python) to provide capabilities within a CAD environment (KLayout)
- Familiarity with integrated circuit design and principles
- Experience with object-oriented programming
- Strong analysis, design and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a MS or PhD program in computer science, engineering, or related fields
- Experience with one or more of the following: fiber optics, fiber lasers, free-space optics, non-linear optics, lasers, spectroscopy, integrated photonics, fiber probes
- Experience with the following equipment: laser source, power meter, OSA, oscilloscope
- Experience handling delicate optics and photonic chips
- Deep understanding of photonic integrated circuits and testing such as: optical coupling and alignment, transmission/insertion loss, spectral response analysis
- Experience simulating photonic components in COMSOL, Lumerical, or similar
- Experience working in a fast-paced research environment

Pay Range:
Pay Range $46,800.00 - $84,600.00
