The Leidos Innovation Center (LInC) Quantum Incubator has an opening for a Photonics Test Engineer Intern to join our team for testing and characterizing photonic integrated circuits (PICs). This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to help grow the Leidos quantum technologies portfolio of contract and internal R&D projects, benchmarking, and operational prototypes. You will work closely with circuit designers and layout engineers to inform the design and layout of circuits for optimal testing. Ideal candidates should be interested in a career devoted to applied research and development with strong experimental, hardware skills and should be interested in maturing technologies from concept to prototype.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and conduct detailed testing and characterization of PICs at the component, subsystem, and system levels
- Collaborate with design and layout engineers to ensure chips are compatible for testing
- Design and execute free space optics and fiber optics experiments
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues in both test setups and integrated photonic devices
- Maintain and calibrate lab equipment and testing apparatus to ensure high-quality testing standards
- Document test results, write comprehensive reports, and present findings to internal teams
- Continuously stay up-to-date with advancements in photonic technology, testing methods, and industry best practices
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a BS program in computer science, physics, engineering, or related fields
- Knowledge or experience with one or more of the following: fiber optics, fiber lasers, free-space optics, non-linear optics, lasers, spectroscopy, integrated photonics, fiber probes
- Familiar with the following equipment: laser source, power meter, OSA, oscilloscope
- Experience handling delicate optics and photonic chips
- General understanding of photonic integrated circuits and basic testing such as: optical coupling and alignment, transmission/insertion loss, spectral response analysis
- Desire to work in a fast-paced research environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a MS or PhD program in computer science, engineering, or related fields
- Experience with one or more of the following: fiber optics, fiber lasers, free-space optics, non-linear optics, lasers, spectroscopy, integrated photonics, fiber probes
- Experience with the following equipment: laser source, power meter, OSA, oscilloscope
- Experience handling delicate optics and photonic chips
- Deep understanding of photonic integrated circuits and testing such as: optical coupling and alignment, transmission/insertion loss, spectral response analysis
- Experience simulating photonic components in COMSOL, Lumerical, or similar
- Experience working in a fast-paced research environment

Pay Range:
Pay Range $46,800.00 - $84,600.00
