Clinical Veterinarian

Job Summary:

Labcorp Drug Development is looking for a Clinical Veterinarian to provide veterinary health care for laboratory animals, monitor animal health and welfare, and give advice regarding the care and maintenance of laboratory animals in compliance with applicable animal welfare regulations, provide training for technicians and help maintain facilities for AAALAC accreditation.

Job Duties Include:

• Provide laboratory animal medical and surgical care by examination, treatment and advice to ensure adequate and humane veterinary support.

• Assist site lead veterinarian to ensure that company policies and practices regarding animal care and welfare are in compliance with relevant regulations.

• Assist in training of staff on general animal health and welfare and common veterinary procedures including, where applicable, annual externship program.

• Serve on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) or Ethical Review Panel (ERP), where appropriate, as alternate member, and conduct veterinary review of IACUC protocol submissions under supervision.

• Perform physical examinations of laboratory animals as indicated in protocols and SOP.

• Perform ophthalmic or other veterinary examinations on laboratory animals as indicated in protocols and SOP (expected within 6 months of external hire).

• Report all animal care concerns and become involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary.

• Participate in client conference calls and visits.

• Manage projects and complex cases independently.

Experience Minimum Required:

• 3 years of veterinary clinical experience or 2 years of experience in Laboratory Animal Medicine.

• For USA positions only: must have a veterinary license in at least one state and ability to obtain a license and USDA accreditation in the state in which the position is located within 6 months.

• For UK positions: membership in the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

• Knowledge of small and large animals used in research.

• Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals.

Education/Qualifications/Certifications and Licenses Required:

• Graduate of AVMA accredited or EAEVE accredited/approved veterinary school or equivalent.
