The Role
As a Technical Lead - Mainframe/iSeries Operations you will be on the technical frontline - performing batch operations as per service agreements, analyzing first-level issues across systems, and resolving/routing issues as appropriate. You will also have the opportunity to develop support system management processes specific to customer requirements, ensuring that we provide the highest level of service to our customers.

Mainframe Tech Support is responsible for various technical support tasks, including mock testing, system health checks, disaster recovery, and managing batch processing errors.
- System and Batch Management: MF Tech Support performs system health checks, executes TSSR requests, and manages batch processing errors from the OPC Abend Queue.
- Coordination and Communication: The team coordinates change records, interfaces with customers for nightly client monitor questions, and ensures completion of the Pervasive Abend Report Spreadsheet.
- Technical Expertise: They possess a full understanding of JCL Abends, allocate various datasets, resolve override and symbolics issues, and manage storage file out of space (FOOS) recovery.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Minimum 7 to 9 years of experience in Mainframe Operations.
- Monitoring and maintaining production LPARS 24/7, handling all console-related alerts, and performing scheduled outages, IPLs, and clock changes.
- Managing JES spool, diagnosing hardware and software problems, and informing the support team.
- Handling service restoration teams and root cause analysis of abends.
- Perform root cause analysis, resolution, and/or escalation for production systems (excluding business applications).
- Execute recovery procedures for production operating systems and devices.
- Perform automated startup and shutdown of the production operating system.
- Execute production subsystem (e.g., IMS, CICS, DB2, IDMS) started tasks restarts, as per support team specifications during special activity changes and upgrading.
- Expertise in Job Control Language (JCL) and job abend codes.
- Monitor scheduled batch jobs.
- Resolve batch scheduling conflicts (non-application) (root cause analysis and change management).
- Sound knowledge of Mainframe infrastructure, consoles, HMC, batch, and subsystems.
- Proficiency in MVS commands and JCL.
- Providing immediate fixes and submitting jobs from batch tools.
- Ensuring timely completion of batch cycles as per the schedule.
- Expertise in Incident, change, and problem management.
- Check each system for outstanding messages and/or batch abends regularly.
- Scan batch output to find the actual cause of failure.
- Identify tasks or issues that can be improved and send tickets to the correct team.
- Determine the severity of a problem quickly and make appropriate escalations.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with all levels of the organization and work independently without direct supervision.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Managing delivery to contract performance standards and client measurements.
iSeries:
- In-depth knowledge of IBMi (AS/400) systems including system architecture, LPAR (Logical Partitioning) and OS versions.
- Ready to work in 24/7 rotational shifts.
- Troubleshooting and technical experience related to IBM i.
- Perform IPL's and good knowledge in disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Expertise in handing transitions.
- Must be able to run jobs from established run sheets and maintain those run sheets
- Knowledge on basic trouble shooting of Mimix, Power HA, iTera.
- Knowledge of backup and recovery tools.
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
- Operating as a single point of contact (SPOC) for service delivery across different technologies and platforms.
- Evaluating delivery readiness reviews, RFS approval, job responsibility reviews, and management of the same.
- Perform regular system backups and ensure data integrity.
- Provide technical support to end-users regarding AS400 system issues.
