The Role

Infrastructure Specialists at Kyndryl are project-based subject matter experts in all things infrastructure - good at providing analysis, documenting and diagraming work for hand-off, offering timely solutions, and generally "figuring it out." This is a hands-on role where your feel for the interaction between a system and its environment will be invaluable to every one of your clients.

There are two halves to this role: First, contributing to current projects where you analyze problems and tech issues, offer solutions, and test, modify, automate, and integrate systems. And second, long-range strategic planning of IT infrastructure and operational execution. This role isn't specific to any one platform, so you'll need a good feel for all of them. And because of this, you'll experience variety and growth at Kyndryl that you won't find anywhere else.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Storage Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with IBM storage systems, Cisco and Brocade SAN switches, and be ready to support 24/7 operations. This role involves troubleshooting performance issues, engineering automation and deployment tools, and maintaining enterprise storage infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Administration: Perform daily administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of storage systems. Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Project Activities: Execute firmware and hardware upgrades. Manage migration activities to ensure minimal disruption to operations.

Replication and Copy Services: Implement and manage Flash Copy, Global Mirror, Metro Mirror, and policy-based replication.

SAN Switch Management: Configure and manage switch zoning for optimal performance and security.

Performance Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Continuously monitor system performance and address any issues promptly. Troubleshoot performance issues on SAN switches and storage arrays.

Automation and Deployment: Engineer automation and deployment tools to enhance the efficiency of storage systems.

Infrastructure Architecture: Set up and maintain enterprise storage infrastructure architecture. Execute storage security hardening according to global policies.

Project Ownership: Take ownership of infrastructure projects and initiatives as assigned. Collaborate with team members to ensure successful project completion.

On-Call Duty: Participate in on-call duty in rotating shifts with other team members.

Problem Solving: Break down complex problems into actionable solutions & Design solutions that empower the team and future generations to succeed.

Communication: Communicate with Server Administrators and management regarding pre-planned outages through the Change Management System.

Required Technical and Professional Experience

  • Proven experience of around 8+ years minimum with IBM V7000, IBM Flash storage, IBM V5030, and IBM Flash system 5000.
  • Proficiency in managing Cisco and Brocade SAN switches.
  • Ability to support 24/7 operations and work extended shifts.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for SAN switches and storage arrays.
  • Experience in engineering automation and deployment tools.
  • Knowledge of enterprise storage infrastructure architecture and security hardening.
  • Backup and recovery software.
  • Perform maintenance or upgrades after hours or on weekends, minimizing impact on businesses and users

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to design effective solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members
  • College degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline
  • At least 6 months experience in IT Services Delivery.
