The Role
As a System Administrator at Kyndryl, you'll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You'll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients - which means some of the biggest in the world.
There's never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You'll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You'll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage storage utilization across the virtualized infrastructure to ensure storage resources are allocated efficiently.
- Provision and manage both internal and external storage for virtualized systems, ensuring high availability and redundancy.
- Continuously monitor the performance of storage resources within the zVM environment, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
- Use monitoring tools to track I/O performance, disk latency, and storage throughput to ensure that virtualized systems are operating efficiently.
- Manage access control and permissions for storage resources, ensuring that only authorized users can perform storage operations such as provisioning, deleting, or modifying virtual disks.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 10+ years of experience in z/VM storage administration.
- Set up storage virtualization environments, ensuring proper integration with zVM and other components such as z/OS & zLinux.
- Configure virtual disks, storage pools, and virtual machine (VM) storage resources within the zVM environment.
- Allocate storage resources (virtual disks, storage pools) to virtual machines (VMs) and applications running in the zVM environment.
- Create and manage snapshots, clones, and other storage management tasks in virtualized environments.
- Configure and manage security policies related to storage access and data protection within the zVM environment
- Troubleshoot storage-related issues such as disk failures, performance degradation, or VM storage access problems.
- Experience in z/VM disk management, minidisk allocation, and Shared File Systems (SFS).
- Expertise in storage performance tuning, I/O optimization, and capacity planning.
- Proficiency in backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Experience with z/VM commands, REXX scripting, and automation tools.
- Knowledge of IBM DS8000, FICON, SAN, and Tape Storage solutions.
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
- Coordinate with other teams (e.g., system administrators, network teams) to resolve storage issues that may affect the overall virtual environment.
- Ensure that storage environments are designed with high availability in mind, implementing redundancy and failover strategies to prevent data loss.
- Implement and manage replication solutions for disaster recovery, ensuring that storage data is consistently backed up and synchronized across systems.
- Test high availability and disaster recovery procedures to ensure they work as expected during incidents.
- Provide necessary reports for auditing purposes, tracking access to storage resources, usage trends, and data retention policies.
- Implement automation tools and scripts to streamline storage management tasks, such as provisioning, monitoring, and backup operations.
- Manage relationships with storage vendors, ensuring that all storage hardware and software are up to date and supported.
- Coordinate with vendors for hardware replacements, upgrades, and support when necessary.
