In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in the Bronx, with a vision that every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. Today, our network consists of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive program to support our students and alumni in choosing and preparing for the educational and career paths that fit their goals and sense of purpose. KIPP NYC currently serves more than 11,000 students and alumni, has a staff of more than 1,000 (11 % of whom are alumni), and continues to grow!

Job Description
Position Overview:
KIPP NYC is currently seeking a regional Managing Director of Operations (MDO) with a demonstrated track record of excellence in operations, especially in building and implementing effective network-wide systems, managing leaders through change, and developing talent. The MDO will report to the Chief Schools Officer and lead a regional Operations team responsible for supporting all KIPP NYC school based operations teams in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and upper Manhattan. The MDO will closely collaborate with regional leadership, school leadership, and the KIPP NYC Shared Services Team to create and lead regional Operations initiatives and goals. The MDO will also lead the KIPP NYC Regional Operations Committee (ROC) designed to strategically implement regional initiatives within our schools through timely and efficient systems and communication.
In partnership with the Chief Schools Officer and senior regional leadership, the Managing Director of Operations (MDO) will create yearly goals for KIPP NYC's regional and school-based operations teams. The Managing Director of Operation is responsible for coaching and leading the Regional Operations team to support school-based teams through consistent and effective systems. This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our schools. Cadence and frequency of travel to schools is determined by your leadership team. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of NY, your employment will be subject to review, which may include separation from KIPP NYC. It is important that you notify HR if you move or have plans to relocate.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leadership and Team Management
- Design and lead a comprehensive strategic vision of regional operations priorities, including the development of aligned operational practices and outcomes across all KIPP NYC schools
- Lead a regional operations team to oversee the support 18 school-based directors of operations and their operations teams
- Lead the Regional Operations Committee (ROC) to coordinate support for key school-based operational functions, by working with the KIPP NYC Shared Services Team on cross-functional projects
- Oversee the creation of professional development to build an internal talent pipeline and foster a strong professional learning community, including recruiting and retaining key talent to build sustainable and scalable systems for operations leadership & support
- Serve as a key member of the Schools team, building organizational culture, and supporting organizational initiatives
Regional Operations Priorities
- Lead the regional operations teams in optimizing regional and school-based operations systems
- Drive high quality school-based operations and team management, in partnership with school leader partnership, including support for day-to-day operations, capacity building, and talent development
- Serve as a liaison to support collaboration and alignment between KIPP NYC Shared Service teams and school leadership.
- Directly manage, oversee and coordinate KIPP NYC regional operations functions, such as compliance, per pupil billing, charter renewal, etc
- Oversee operational support for key regional academic functions, state assessment administration, report cards, procurement, etc
- Oversee student safety and emergency preparedness protocols across KIPP NYC, including regional communication protocols for family communication, related to operational matters
- Develop and manage the regional operations budget, while also reviewing and supporting school budget management
Operational Compliance
- Coordinate charter compliance, including renewal applications, authorizer site visits, and related reporting, and maintains an effective working relationship with charter authorizers
- Manage regional and school based teams to meet all compliance and public reporting mandates.
- Coordinate with school based teams and regional support teams to manage the bi-monthly Per-Pupil Billing process to ensure accurate revenue.
- Serve as a liaison for all DOE shared services and matters including space planning, construction, facilities management and co-location planning
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA, JD or master's degree in a related field highly preferred.
- 15+ years of professional experience, with 5+ years of successful team management, including motivating and developing high performing teams to deliver results.
- Demonstrated experience with building and scaling operations in high growth environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build consensus, facilitate collaboration, problem-solving, and manage conflict among varied stakeholders in matrixed environments.
- Ability to clearly define strategic issues and make tough decisions in the face of ambiguity and incomplete information.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, lead multiple projects, achieve success within stated deadlines.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Information
Compensation and Benefits:
KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $152,440 - $189,000. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band.
