In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in the Bronx, with a vision that every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. Today, our network consists of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive program to support our students and alumni in choosing and preparing for the educational and career paths that fit their goals and sense of purpose. Job Description

Position Overview:

The KIPP NYC Director, After School will lead the KIPP NYC After School team and will be responsible for the developing and executing of a comprehensive strategic plan for after school programming. The Director will oversee the evaluation of all KIPP NYC after school programs, including the efficient management of financial resources, partnerships with vendors and community-based organizations, and compliance with funders and the Department of Health. Reporting directly to the Chief External Affairs Officer, this position is ideal for someone who possesses a strong background in education, youth development principles, and out-of-school time program design, implementation, and evaluation.

This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our schools. Cadence and frequency of travel to schools is determined by your leadership team. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of NY, your employment will be subject to review, which may include separation from KIPP NYC. It is important that you notify HR if you move or have plans to relocate.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Develop and execute a strategic plan for K-8 after school programming, aligning with KIPP NYC's mission and goals.
    • Lead the KIPP NYC after school team, fostering a vision and culture of collaboration, innovation, and commitment to excellence.
  • Team Management and Development:
    • Directly manage the Regional After School team, consisting of a regional After School Manager and the regional After School Associate.
    • Train and manage a diverse team of school-based after school directors, empowering them to excel in their roles and contribute to student success.
    • Design, lead, and implement regional professional development sessions aimed at enhancing the learning and development of after school staff, aligning with organizational goals and best practices.
  • Financial Management:
    • Oversee the annual budgeting process for DYCD and non-DYCD after school programs, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial guidelines.
    • Monitor expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and optimize budgetary efficiency to maximize program impact.
  • Partnership Development:
    • Serve as the primary liaison to after school funding sources, government agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
    • Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships to secure funding, resources, and support for after school initiatives.
  • Program Development and Evaluation:
    • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based after school programs that meet the diverse needs of students.
    • Regularly assess program effectiveness, collect stakeholder feedback, and use data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and licensing requirements for after school programs, including SACC licensing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree required with 7+ years of experience in program management, including 4+ years in a leadership role overseeing after school program teams.
  • Demonstrated track record of the development, implementation, and evaluation of after school initiatives that promote student engagement, academic achievement, and socio-emotional growth.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets, analyzing financial data, and securing funding from diverse sources.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with experience leading inclusive teams and creating culturally responsive programming.
  • Knowledge of best practices in after school programming, youth development, and education policy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships
  • Demonstrated passion for and a commitment to the KIPP mission for high-quality public education and the character traits we value: zest, grit, self-control, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor

Additional Information

Compensation and Benefits:

KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $115,000 to $130,000 per year. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band. Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range, however they are ultimately determined by scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
