As an External Reporting Controller Fair Value, Fair Value Option, Trading Assets and Structured Notes within the Firmwide External Reporting Controller (FERC) organization, you will be responsible for overseeing front to back reporting of key external (SEC) and regulatory disclosures. You will work closely with various lines of business and stakeholders, ensuring completeness of reporting processes, identifying and enhancing controls, and remediating identified gaps. This role provides an opportunity to build strong relationships across regions and contribute to continuous process and reporting improvements.

Within this organization the Fair Value, Fair Value Option, Trading Assets and Structured Notes FERC team is responsible for investigating, reviewing, and enhancing external reporting/regulatory reporting appropriate to the teams' expertise (fair value, trading assets and structured notes) across consolidated and Bank reporting for external filings. The team is expected to provide guidance and advisory support to the Firm in developing a robust framework and will also be a main contact for external reporting queries for stakeholders such as individual Lines of Business (LOB), and External Regulators. Additionally, the team may undertake projects to improve systems/flows to support the reporting of relevant schedules and disclosures required for external filings.
The role requires communication with a broad range of senior counterparts and stakeholders across the regions, including Corporate Accounting Policy, Valuation Controls Group, Product Controllers, Legal Entity Controllers, Firmwide Regulatory Reporting Analysis and External Reporting teams as well as various project teams and central reporting teams. Strong relationship management skills are needed to be effective; expansion of personal networks is encouraged.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensuring completeness of reporting processes for fair value, fair value option, trading assets and structured data for regulatory and SEC report submission
- Identify Controls, enhancement and mapping across systems, businesses and organizations
- Remediate of identified gaps
- Analyze individual lines of business submissions for fair value related disclosures
- Ensuring amounts related to fair value, trading assets and structured notes related disclosures are correctly reflected in the various financial and regulatory reports
- Partnering with key stakeholders to quantify potential impacts of identified issues and ensuring impact on financial statements and regulatory reports are understood
- Working with key stakeholders to ensure any regulatory changes to reporting are appropriately reflected in our disclosures.
- Build strong relationships with a broad range of counterparts and stakeholders across the regions including accounting policy, regional product controllers, financial controllers, entity controllers, various project teams and business control officers.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Degree qualified
- Good financial product knowledge
- Ability to work effectively, meet challenging deadlines and to work under pressure
- Analytical and quantitative aptitude - ability to identify and solve problems independently
- Strong interpersonal skills and good communication skills
- Keen focus on continuous process and reporting improvements
- Controls focused
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- CPA qualified - preferred Qualified; regulatory understanding key (US GAAP/SEC reporting desirable)
