As a Director of Architecture at JPMorgan Chase within the Chief Data Analytics Office, Data Platforms team, you lead a specific area of architecture and drive impact within teams, technologies, and projects across departments. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of architecture applications, processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives while serving as a primary decision maker for your teams and a driver of innovation to achieve the target state architecture goals.

You will support our engineering teams through technical architecture deep-dives focusing on application development practices, technology controls and will ensure strong performance based on growth forecasts for the platform. You will partner with teams to review development best practices, ensuring good quality code, comprehensive testing and a robust technology controls implementation.

Job responsibilities

  • You will lead technical architecture and drive best-in-class technical discipline across the organization.
  • Conduct architecture deep dives and reviews to ensure alignment with strategic goals and identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to high standards of application development hygiene, including code quality, comprehensive documentation, and rigorous testing practices.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of robust technology controls to safeguard data integrity, security, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance system scalability and performance, ensuring applications can handle increased loads efficiently. Work across teams to assess and optimize infrastructure to support platform growth.
  • Implement and promote best practices in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to enhance efficiency, quality, and collaboration across development teams.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on complex distributed systems concepts and expert applied experience.
  • Significant of experience building complex distributed systems.
  • A mindset geared towards a fantastic end-to-end engineering experience and strong technical discipline supported by excellent tooling and automation.
  • Experience building out real-world architectures that engineering teams buy into and build their application around.
  • Excellent understanding of technology controls and how they should be implemented effectively to secure our platforms.
  • Strong understanding on how to design platforms to scale to meet growth requirements from business stakeholders.
  • Able to influence engineers at different levels of seniority to ensure a standard approach to best-in-class engineering across the organization.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS product/services and Kubernetes/container technologies and how they are best used for specific workloads.
