Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking a Senior Manager, Capital Construction Procurement to join our Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Supply Chain organization located in Wilson, North Carolina.
While this role will ultimately support the site operations located in Wilson NC, this role will also be required to support the project phase across both design & construction. For the project design phase, the role will require you to be present with our design teams in the Greater Philadelphia region. Once the design phase is completed, this role will support the construction and operational start-up of the site. For this, you will be required to be on site in Wilson, NC. Based on your current location the hiring team will work with you to determine travel and relocation arrangements. In steady state, we expect travel to be less than 10%.

This is a great opportunity for those who are passionate about Capital Construction Procurement. You will be responsible for ensuring the best value in our supplier engagements that impact our Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine (IM) portfolio for the Capital Construction & Project Management (CCPM) and Capital Equipment (CE) categories within the Capital, Construction & Facilities Services (CCFS) team. You will collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure our capital construction project for the greenfield Large Molecule Drug Substance manufacturing facility is completed on time and with the best value. Your contributions will help enable Our Credo commitments to our employees who work in these facilities so that they can fulfill our responsibilities to "the patients, doctors and nurses, to mothers and fathers and all others who use our products and services".
This role has lead responsibility representing the CCFS team in supporting J&J Innovative Medicine's New Drug Substance plant. This consists of deploying, leading, and implementing capital Procurement strategies, policies, plans and procedures.
Key responsibilities:
- Be responsible for the category/sourcing processes related to the CCPM and CE categories to support construction of the New Drug Substance plant.
- Manage spend of approximately $300-500 million annually, with medium to high complexity and requires a high degree of collaboration with stakeholders internally and externally. Ensure best value by optimizing cost savings, capabilities, cash flow, and schedule requirements.
- Be responsible for leading and implementing strategies and initiatives aligned with CCFS strategy. Collaborate closely with key stakeholders across Engineering & Property Services (E&PS), J&J Innovative Medicine Supply Chain, and Procurement.
- Handle the relationships and Procurement activities across multiple preferred suppliers to ensure the success of short and long-term projects measured on financial performance, quality, service, and compliance.
- Contribute to the development and alignment of sourcing strategies and lead/oversee execution of category strategies to include sourcing, negotiations, contract implementation/adherence, and performance against established targets to ensure success.
- Identify business demand/planning requirements and partner with leaders in Supply Chain, E&PS, and Procurement to deliver annual value improvements to drive competitive advantage.
- Interface directly with all vital levels of supplier's leadership (including executives) to assure alignment of J&J's objectives are met, including quality, reliability, innovation and cost.
- Lead supplier relationship management with key suppliers. This includes data review and analysis, performance management, development, and improvement of end to end value, and bring innovation to the business.
- Promptly, predictively, and judiciously escalate and lead issues that may impact the Procurement organization and/or our team members. Explore and implement solutions in a collaborative and Credo-based manner.
Qualifications
Required:
- A minimum of a BA/BS degree is required with a preference for majors in Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, Science, Finance or similar.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in procurement of process and infrastructure equipment and Engineering / Construction services in/for large scale capital construction projects
- Experience working for or overseeing large General Contractors, and in procurement activities sourcing, negotiating, contracting and transacting business with trade contractors (e.g. construction, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, utilities etc.) on large capital construction projects
- Demonstrated experience with Procurement's policies, operations, processes, operating model, and value proposition.
- Broad-based understanding of business operations and practices and core Procurement areas of focus (i.e. Spend Management, Category Management and Supplier Management).
- Experience on RFx/Sourcing activities for bid packages associated with large construction projects, including preparation of bidding documents and ensuring bidders' engagement and participation. Successful use of sourcing technology platform(s) including bid analysis, interpretation, and recommendation.
- Financial acumen and strong track record of complying with financial requirements
- Strong leadership, communication, influencing, trust-building, and collaboration skills
- Able to prioritize requests and develop/propose effective solutions/alternatives in collaboration with others
- Demonstrated commitment to Credo-based decision-making, complying with policies, and acting with a sense of urgency. Maintains confidentiality as necessary.
- Demonstrated willingness to assess and adapt to changes in the external environment
- Ability to effectively manage contract resources
Preferred:
- An MBA or similar graduate degree is preferred.
- Certification in the following: CPM, CPSM, operations/process excellence, or similar
- Procurement experience on multi-year, large capital construction projects involving the design and construction of a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility
- Demonstrated experience with Procurement's policies, operations, processes, operating model, and value proposition
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Successfully led cross-functional teams with strong project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a way that inspires collaboration and empowerment
