Research & Development Engineering Co-op - Trauma & Deformity Correction

DePuy Synthes, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting for a Product Development Co-op, located in West Chester, PA.

The Co-op will work on research and development of Trauma and Deformity Correction products.

You will use your engineering knowledge to support the process of developing trauma orthopedic products and corrective surgery products. You will gain exposure to both hardware and software development. You will have an opportunity to work through the product development process gaining exposure to MedTech product development. This is a full time six-month position which provides a student valuable work experience in lieu of a typical college semester.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to Medical Device Design and Development Deliverables.
  • Design and iterate product concepts quickly and optimally via prototype builds, laboratory testing, and/or computer simulations.
  • Support development of design requirements and their translation into design concepts and solutions, based on user needs and product function.
  • Develop test methods, design/build fixtures and systems for testing,
  • Participate in detailed reviews of designs, test methods, requirements, spec's, etc. and effectively communicate technical information in written/verbal forms.


Qualifications

Qualifications

Education:

  • A current University student in an accredited engineering program in good academic standing.
  • Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Highly motivated and can work independently on one or multiple projects under general direction and can exhibit attention to detail.
  • Interest in medical device, orthopedics, and robotics.
  • Has a good sense of priorities and manages time accordingly.
  • Has strong communication skills (written and verbal), including experience presenting in front of multidisciplinary audiences, and attending team meeting face to face and by teleconference.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required.
  • A minimum G.P.A. of 3.0.

Other:

This position requires a full-time (40 hours/week) work week. Generally, on site Tuesday through Thursday and from home on Monday and Friday. The position is intended to be for the first half of 2025. Exact dates of the co-op term are flexible based on the university schedule. You will need to provide your own transportation to this location.
