Position Overview
The Principal R&D Electrical Engineer will lead technical development of innovative electronic systems to treat peripheral and heart valve diseases, will participate on multiple cross-functional development teams that manage projects from concept through commercialization, and will perform and support a variety of development engineering activities including high-voltage analog, digital circuit and programmable logic design.
Essential Job Functions
- Architect and design electronic pulse discharge systems for medical devices.
- Develop proof of concept designs and bench models to test these concepts in a simulated environment.
- Develop new and novel products based on user defined needs.
- Translate user needs into design inputs/product specifications.
- Create technical specifications from specific user requirements.
- Develop, validate, and maintain system test methods and plans.
- Lead less-senior engineers to develop system and circuit board test fixtures.
- Direct and/or perform schematic capture, PCB layout, and manage prototype builds.
- Perform functional verification of systems to medical device standards.
- Work with marketing and New Product Development teams to develop new design concepts.
- Participate in system-level technical design reviews to ensure all design inputs and user needs are addressed.
- Initiate and conduct system design reviews with cross-functional teams.
- Troubleshoot complex electronic systems to the component level.
- Provide support in the company medical device auditing processes.
- Enhance the intellectual property position of the company via invention disclosures and patent applications.
- Take a leading role in the management of assigned projects.
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering with 10+ years of design and development experience, or a Master's Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering with 8+ years of design and development experience.
- Experience in architecting and bringing new products to market.
- Experience in all product design phases from concept to commercialization.
- Extensive experience with schematic capture, and PCB layout using Altium Designer.
- Experience with analog and digital circuit modeling tools.
- Experience designing DC/DC and AC/DC switch mode power supplies.
- Design experience with FPGA's using Verilog and VHDL.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with all levels of management and organizations.
- Experience developing C language code for common microcontroller peripherals such as UART, SPI, I2C, GPIOs, ADCs, DACs, and other analog transducers.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Ability to adapt and reprioritize to changing requirements.
- Experience in the development of medical devices is a strong plus.
- Experience with lasers and pulse discharge systems a plus.
- Experience designing soft core processors in programmable logic devices is a plus.
- Employee may be required to lift objects up to 25lbs.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $141,000 to $227,700.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

- Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
