Blue Knight was launched in 2020 and aims to stimulate the innovation and incubation of science and technologies that accelerate and/or improve discovery, development and access to therapies, devices and platforms that both may improve health security and response and are in areas of strategic interest for Johnson & Johnson by supporting companies developing multi-use technologies.
The BARDA Alliance Innovation Activation Manager will be responsible for developing the internal and external messaging and engagement plans to drive strategic sourcing ; enhance the brand, reputation, and awareness of Blue Knight. They will also develop a data-driven approach for strategic decision making and prioritization of activations and related investments. This individual will be a core member of the Blue Knight team and the role will drive the strategic objectives of the joint initiative.
The role includes the potential for high-level interaction across Company and with BARDA, as well as engagement with early-stage companies, potential collaborators, external vendors and partners, and potentially others. This position is externally funded and contingent upon the funding associated with the respective program.
The Innovation Activation Manager will work in partnership with JLABS site teams to develop a cohesive and integrated strategy. The manager will possess strong strategic planning and project management skills (position requires 40% strategy, 50% project management, 10% administrative work) to execute projects under the leader's remit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of the Blue Knight strategic engagement plan to support business targets, including setting specific marketing strategy, goals, objectives and plans for Blue Knight.
- Serve as a trusted business advisor and subject matter expert to the BARDA Alliance Director.
- Utilize data to generate insights and drive the continued iteration and insights for a data-driven strategy.
- Generate innovative ideas to promote our brand, our mission, our ecosystem, and our portfolio of companies, including digital campaigns, external engagements, programming, sponsorships, and symposiums.
- Operationalize plans including metrics generation, data analysis, market insights and budget management.
- Report and socialize key findings with the teams, translating results into clear, concise presentations and written reports.
- Lead and leverage presence at regional conferences (sponsorship, speaking engagements, event planning, advertisements, booth, speakers, etc.).
- Lead the annual Blue Knight Symposium.
- Use customer feedback to improve performance of Blue Knight.
- Coordinate and manage high visibility visits both internal and external.
- Responsible for growing brand awareness.
- As needed, identify new as well as scale marketing systems and processes for growth (e.g., contact database, email marketing, event management, digital analytics, and online community management).
- Support corporate identity through internal and external work (electronic and hardcopy newsletters, portal, external websites, external brochures, presentations, social media channels, SOPs, etc.).
- Support regional marketing workstreams.
- Accountable for Blue Knight activation budget and responsible for forecasting and monthly/quarterly/yearend reporting.
- Manage internal and external communications channels for Blue Knight and for integrating Blue Knight content into other communications channels.
- Support the BARDA Alliance Director in streamlining prompt follow-up of sourcing opportunities post-Activations/Engagements
- Support the BARDA Alliance Director with ad hoc requests and administrative responsibilities as needed.
- Support management of the external engagement budget, including assistance submitting new work requests via the eMarketplace system, coordinating contracts, generating POs, Healthcare Compliance, monitoring expenses and tracking budgets.
Qualifications
Education:
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, Business, or a related discipline is required.
Experience and Skills:
Required:
- A proven performer with a minimum of 7 years of brand/product marketing and events experience is required.
- Experience developing program content and advertising is required.
- Experience working with and managing vendors, consultants, and budgets is required.
- Analytical skills are required.
- Experience in budget forecasting and planning is required.
- Exceptional writing skills are required.
- E-Marketing, social media, and digital marketing experience required.
- Experience in using digital systems for content marketing, event management tools and online tools are required.
- Good people skills, able to influence management and work cross-functionally in a matrixed environment is required.
- Strong organization skills with ability to prioritize are required.
- Strong personal leadership skills are required.
- Ability to organize work towards deadlines and priorities on a daily basis is required.
- Customer service oriented experience is required.
- Ability to demonstrates inclusive leadership is required.
- This position may require up to 15% travel
Preferred:
- Team leadership and management experience is preferred.
- Experience within a healthcare setting or industry association is preferred.
- Experience managing events/symposia for at least 500 in-person attendees is preferred
- Experience working with US federal funding and with US government stakeholders is preferred.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $120,000 to $207,000 USD
The compensation and benefits information set forth in this posting applies to candidates hired in the United States. Candidates hired outside the United States will be eligible for compensation and benefits in accordance with their local market.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

- Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year
- Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington - up to 56 hours per calendar year
- Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year
- Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
