Introduction
In the Security Research department at the T.J. Watson Research Center, we conduct basic and applied research in all aspects of Security, Privacy, and Cryptography. We are building new and innovative technologies in confidential computing, OS security, cloud security, AI security, software security, and supply chain security.
Your Role and Responsibilities
This is for a 2025 summer internship with the following start dates: May - August or June - September for quarter system schools.
We are looking to grow our team of research scientists and engineers. We value research skills, innovation, strong systems intuition, systems building experience and a strong desire to implement one's own ideas. You will advance fundamental science and publish in top-tier journals and conferences. You will also help conceive and build the next generation of innovative solutions to address real-world security challenges. Successful candidates will design, implement, and analyze state-of-the-art tools and systems for improving the security operations or systems and organizations to solve real-world problems.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Applicants should be PhD & MS students pursuing graduate studies.
- Strong programming skills (Go, Python, C/C++, Java, Javascript, etc.)
- System building/debugging/testing skills and software engineering practices.
- Systems and software security experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience with AI, large language models, and LLM / agentic frameworks.
- Building cloud applications experience.
- Publishing scientific results in top tier conferences and/or journals.
