Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM Research Europe - UK is offering internships for MSc and PhD students interested in experiencing the research environment in IBM Quantum.
IBM Quantum is an industry-leading initiative to build universal quantum computers for business, engineering, and science. This effort includes advancing the entire quantum computing stack and exploring promising application areas. Our goal is to make quantum computing useful and broadly accessible.

Based in the Quantum Algorithms and Applications team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing research in quantum simulation, quantum machine learning, and quantum error mitigation.
During your internship, you will have the opportunity to work on challenging research problems as part of a diverse team in a global research organization. Our cross-disciplinary approach to research, coupled with the curiosity of our researchers and engineers, offers a unique opportunity to participate in scientific and industrial research. Interns have authored papers, filed patents, and contributed to open-source projects and IBM products during their time with us.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Applicants should be enrolled in an MSc or PhD programme in physics, mathematics, computer science, chemistry or a related field focusing on quantum computing and quantum information.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience developing novel quantum algorithms.
- Experience with the Qiskit SDK.
