As a Platform Engineer within Client Engineering, you'll be a key player in a multi-disciplinary team made up of Architects, AI Engineers, Designers, and Business Technology Leaders. The brightest and creative minds collaborating with clients as one team and contributing to experiential working sessions and builds. The outputs of which produce pilots that lead to the deployment of enterprise-scale solutions at start-up speed.

Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Platform Engineer within IBM Client Engineering, you will play a key role in delivering unique client co-creation experiences to accelerate their digital transformation. You will be involved in all aspects of integrated solutions, from identifying requirements to making technical decisions that impact the business case. As a Platform Engineer, you will work as an integral part of cross-functional teams to realize the full potential of our hybrid cloud and AI solutions providing business value to our clients.
We are committed to your success. If this role aligns with your career. Your typical day as a Platform Engineer may look like:
  • Leverage contemporary hybrid cloud skills (e.g., AI, analytics, DevOps, DevSecOps, IaC, automation, security, networking, and storage) with deep industry expertise and an understanding of your clients' businesses.
  • Define and communicate the unique value of IBM's technology, both technically and commercially.
  • Participate in client sessions that include a range of public and hybrid cloud technologies, such as Red Hat OpenShift, IBM Cloud Paks, and Kubernetes.
  • Support the solutions architecture plan and be a hands-on "builder" during client-facing engagements.
  • Advice on solution architecture to align with platform best practices, with a focus on our clients target environment to ease transition to deployment.
  • Work with deployment teams to transition platform assets and information to provide seamless transitions for our clients.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Hands-on experience with a wide range of cloud and AI technologies.
  • Practical knowledge and direct experience with virtualized on-premise and cloud-based computing platforms.
  • Experience in building application and infrastructure deployment automation workflows.
  • Proven track record in participating in customer-facing technical solutions teams across various cloud architectures.
  • Technical experience in a cloud-related domain such as Data/Analytics, Data Science, Security, or other cloud-native, hybrid, or public-cloud technology.
  • Understanding and practical application of Agile best practices.
  • Proficient in at least one common cloud native programming language (Java, Python, HCL, Rust, Ansible, etc.)

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • At least 1 year in a technical operations role, such as site reliability or platform engineering, in hybrid-cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Experience in deploying and operating solutions on AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience as a Solution Architect or in a public cloud consultant role.
  • Experience in developing collaborative client relationships at all levels within organizations.
  • Knowledge of Well-Architected Frameworks from AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, or Google Cloud.
  • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., CNCF, AWS, IBM Cloud, Azure, Google Cloud, DevOps).
  • Experience working in dynamic team environments and cross-functionally with teams such as Product Management, Engineering, and Customer Success.
