Your Role and Responsibilities

Your role as a Country Tax Manager is to manage all tax-related activities for IBM in Egypt. This includes ensuring compliance with local tax laws, developing tax strategies, overseeing tax audits, reporting and planning. You are required to have a deep understanding of Egypt tax regulations and the ability to work effectively with various internal and external stakeholders. You will report into MEA tax manager.

Tax Compliance and controversies:

  • Ensure compliance with all local tax laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and file accurate tax returns (income tax, VAT, withholding tax, Transfer Pricingetc.) in a timely manner. ensuring clean current audit record; ensuring no tax penalties or interest payments; ensuring no material under/over statement of tax balances (deferred Tax, provision for tax, tax receivable/payables) in management statutory accounts.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors as necessary.
  • Engage in open dialogue proactive compliance with Egypt Tax Authorities.
  • Work with external professional advisors to identify drive opportunities
  • Manage proactively all audits by tax authorities across all taxes, as well as other controversies (court litigation, tax treaty dispute resolution advance rulings), in open timely collaboration with Centre of Excellence and Group Tax

Tax Planning and Strategy:

  • Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position.
  • Provide advice on tax implications of business decisions and transactions.
  • Identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies.

Tax Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation and review of tax provisions and disclosures for financial statements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all tax-related information.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and assess their impact on the business.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate tax risks.
  • Maintain documentation to support tax positions taken.
  • Handle tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities.

  • Country CFO, Management team, broader FC, heads of functions in Egypt
  • MEA Tax and Group Tax
  • Other functions Treasury, AR, AP..
  • Centre of Excellences

Key External Relationships

  • Tax consultants.
  • External auditors
  • Tax authorities.
  • Government authorities.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
  • CPA, CA, or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in tax, preferably within a multinational corporation or a public accounting firm.
  • Proven experience in managing tax compliance and planning, and tax audits

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of local tax laws and regulations, dealing with local tax authorities
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in tax software and MS Office Suite.
