Janelia Research Campus is a pioneering research center in Ashburn, Virginia, where scientists pursue fundamental questions in the life sciences. Summary:
As part of the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) team, you will contribute to sustainability efforts at Janelia in a variety of ways. To be successful, you will need to be a good communicator, adaptable, and eager to learn and collaborate with others. You should be proactive in your approach to work, passionate about environmental sustainability, and enthusiastic about gaining real-world experience.
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), primarily in-person internship that will report to Janelia Research Campus in Ashburn, Virginia four days per week (Mondays-Thursdays) and work remotely on Fridays.
Please note: If selected for an opportunity, interns are responsible for securing their own housing for the duration of the internship (12 weeks during the summer months - mid-late May to early-mid August).

- This internship will be compensated at a rate of $17.50-$19.00/hour.
What You'll Do:
- Perform laboratory audits at Janelia for a new green lab certification program.
- Learn about environmental health and safety guidelines, standards, and procedures.
- Join EH&S team members on regular lab safety inspections.
- Collaborate with other departments at HHMI as needed.
What You Bring:
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program majoring in environmental science or other relevant scientific discipline is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Eagerness to learn, grow professionally, and be mentored.
- Strong initiative, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, teamwork, analytical, and time management skills.
- Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
