Welding Engineer for Supply Quality & Development

Mission statement:

Your role is to make sure that production of Transformers' metal fabrication on Chinese soil is done according to Hitachi Energy Quality requirements. This will require spending significant amount of time at suppliers and thus will require flexibility and business trip up to 50% of your time. Along with this role you will also focus on Welding topics, Product qualifications, Inspections, as well as non-conformity resolution. You will participate to improve the situation at current suppliers as well as develop new ones to meet Quality and OTD (On Time Deliveries) targets.

Your responsibilities:

  • Traction tanks are safety related products and require some dedicated processes and requirements, your role will be to ensure that the special process Welding is organized and executed correctly at suppliers in compliance with the actual relevant standards as well as Hitachi Energy internal procedures: Apply and enforce the standard for welding quality in railway: EN 15085 CL1 and general welding quality: ISO 3834-2 standards, as well as other internal guidelines.
  • You will support and carry out the development of welded parts according to Hitachi Energy milestones process of metal fabrication (welding, painting, design and dimensional part) and follow up until the official validation of the product by the customer. Participate and lead DR (Design Review), PMR (Pre-Manufacturing Review) and FAI (First Article Inspection).
  • Your role will be to ensure Safety and Quality of the railway components being delivered to Hitachi Energy. This means following the product fabrication during development phase but also in serial production. Inspection of the parts at suppliers will take place during prefabrication, fabrication and once manufacturing is finished in order to get final inspection validated in the first time and no non-conformity for the final product.
  • You will alert if any deviation is noticed and organize countermeasures at suppliers. When needed you will define rework procedure (in line with the rest of the Welding Coordination team) and you will monitor the good execution.
  • You will review documentation related to Quality & Welding such as: Quality & Inspection Plan, Manufacturing sequence, Welding plan, WPQR, WPS, Welder qualifications, welding samples, NDT (Non-Destructive Testing), jigs and tooling, etc.
  • You will also check the workshop & work environment: welding stations, traceability of raw material and filler material, welding generators, etc. Along with welding requirements, you will make sure that dimensional and painting requirements are fulfilled.
  • You will handle Quality for Hitachi Energy products and more generally you will participate to continuous improvement for the company. This will be achieved by: Resolving NCR (Non-Conformity Report) in SAP, Addressing RCA (Root Cause Analysis) through 8D, making sure that the relevant corrective as well as preventive actions are taken at suppliers.
  • You will be involved into resolution of CCRP, which are customer complaint with regards to quality non-conformity.
  • You will participate to the collect and analysis of some KPI (Key Performance Indicators) for Quality & OTD (On Time Deliveries).
  • You will actively participate to maintaining and developing the supplier base of Hitachi Energy in China (according to the strategy defined in Hub EUC). This will require follow-up audits at current suppliers as well as new audits at potential suppliers. During supplier development phase you will be required to work hand in the hand with the supplier to bring them up to speed regarding the expected requirements.

Your background:

  • You hold a IWE (International Welding Engineer) degree mandatory.
  • Experience in welding/painting and related inspection process would be preferred.
  • Experience is Microsoft Office would be preferred.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in railway EN 15085 is a plus.
  • Lean 6 Sigma & continuous improvement basic knowledge would be preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with different hierarchical levels of people internally at Hitachi Energy as well as externally.
  • Proficiency in English B2 / Chinese C1.
