As a electrical design development engineer, you will work in R&D organization on a specific development project critical to Hitachi Energy needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. The current technology has enabled the connection of renewable energy such as large offshore wind and remote solar generators to the grid and brings clean energy to large cities. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas to make the power grid greener and smarter as we continue to push the technology forward.
Our team is a part of Hitachi Technology and Solutions Development in Beijing, China, and is responsible for the development of semiconductor based HVDC and Static Var Compensation applications. Our department has sixteen employees, focusing mainly on mechanical design, and works in close collaboration with the global HVDC organization. We are looking for engineers who bring fresh and innovative ideas to make the power grid greener and smarter, as we continue to push the technology forward.

Your responsibilities:
- You will conceptualize, develop high power electronic module: by integrating high power semiconductor and other key power electronics and mechanics components, into a safe and reliable solution based on applications requirement.
- You will perform semiconductor calculations and simulations to determine voltage stresses and losses in the power electronic module, verify with hands-on high-power testing in our test laboratories and optimize the semiconductor characteristics and specification based on power electronic module and its applications requirement.
- You will design and specify key components belong to power electronic module such as DC capacitor, bypass switch, heatsinks, busbars, snubber resistor characteristics to fulfill voltage and current stress, insulation, heat dissipate, electro-magnetic force, control and protection requirements and to verify with simulation, calculation and testing.
- You will be corporate with system input, collaborate with suppliers, take responsibility for the design from ideation phase through concept, detail design to final test and verification.
- You will perform technical Lead role in R&D projects: Connects and coordinates different technology areas to enable creating solutions to emerging business need. Bridges different perspectives in highly complex and challenging situations, thus achieving common agreement. Clearly expresses complex concepts and information in writing and/or verbally and is easily understood. Assesses and mitigates the risk involved when introducing new technical/scientific solutions.

Your background:
- A Master or Doctor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or equivalent.
- Required 5-8 years' Work experience from high voltage semiconductor application (Thyristor, IGBT, BIGT, IGCT) from HVDC, MVDrive, Wind converter, STATCOM, SVG, Traction and Energy storage industries is preferable.
- Experience with working with laboratory equipment and converter prototyping and testing for power electronics in high voltage products is plus.
- Experience with software like LTspice, MATLAB or PSCAD, is valuable.
