The opportunity
The local Laboratory Manager in Oerlikon is a key member within Hitachi Energy's High Voltage Business Unit's Global Laboratory Organization and will be part of the management team within the IEC 17025 accredited laboratories in Xiamen (China), Ludvika (Sweden), and Baden/Oerlikon (Switzerland). As the line manager of the Oerlikon laboratory team, you will ensure smooth and efficient daily operations. Your responsibilities include leading and managing the laboratory, maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, and driving continuous process improvements. You will also create a safe and productive work environment, collaborate with other departments to support organizational objectives, and ensure that laboratory activities align with the company's broader strategic goals.

How you'll make an impact
- Lead local laboratory operations at the Oerlikon site, managing daily activities and the local team
- Report directly to the Global Laboratory Manager, ensuring alignment with global objectives and effective team management
- Maintain compliance with international testing standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE) and IEC 17025 certification, while accommodating client-specific testing requirements
- Serve as the liaison with local and Hub finance departments, ensuring financial processes meet local regulations and PG 2132 guidelines
- Manage the laboratory's P&L, aiming for a positive financial outcome and emphasizing cost awareness and efficiency
- Collaborate with the HR business partner to handle staffing and recruitment, providing input on staffing needs and discussing strategies with the Global Head of Laboratories
- Ensure smooth laboratory operations by maintaining and continuously upgrading facilities to state-of-the-art standards
- Work with the Global Head of Laboratories to define the strategy and scope of testing capabilities, developing investment proposals to support strategic goals and drive improvements
- Act as the primary contact for resolving customer issues and claims, ensuring prompt and effective solutions
Your background
- In-depth technical knowledge of testing high voltage products (HP, HV, HC, mechanical) and familiarity with HV/HP laboratory infrastructure
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams effectively and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong customer focus with the capability to manage and resolve conflicting situations
- Experienced in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) matters, particularly in electrical safety
- At least 5 years of experience in a laboratory environment, either as a laboratory employee or as a customer of laboratory services
- Fluent in German and English
