We are seeking a Legislation and Material Compliance Specialist to join our Global Sustainability Team in the Service Business Unit. In this role, you will be instrumental in implementing our global sustainability strategy, with a focus on material compliance and sustainability within the service business, particularly in the areas of spare parts and maintenance of an extensive installed base.
Reporting to the Global Sustainability Manager, you will play a crucial role in shaping sustainability efforts and ensuring compliance with regulations and standards within the service organization in the electricity transmission and distribution industry.
You will collaborate closely with various teams to harmonize efforts and achieve common objectives, driving continuous improvement and contributing to a net-positive impact on nature.

Key responsibilities:
- Monitor and assess regulations and standards relevant to the service product portfolio, particularly in the areas of spare parts and maintenance of an extensive installed base.
- Prepare technical documents linking spare parts information with material compliance, especially for requests from government regulators related to service and maintenance.
- Utilize your material and chemistry background to contribute to material compliance-related customer discussions, with a focus on impacts to quality processes, and service operations.
- Lead projects and activities within the service organization that address material compliance and sustainability of the service portfolio with focus on the installed base and spare parts.
- Contribute in driving continuous improvement processes, including audit and oversight mechanisms, related to materials selection, testing, sustainability, and compliance within the service business.
- Create and maintain internal guidelines, processes, and policies for spare parts qualification, testing, sustainability, and compliance, tailored to the needs of the service business.
- Collaborate closely with scientists and engineers from Hitachi Energy research and development centers, external laboratories, and service providers worldwide in material selection, specification, and qualification, with a focus on service applications.
- Work closely with supply chain teams to organize supplier compliance information relevant to spare parts and maintenance.
- Interface with procurement and quality engineers to support supplier selection and qualification, ensuring alignment with service business requirements.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the organization to develop process documentation and workflows on material compliance, specifically for the service business.
- Engage with other parts of the company dealing with material compliance and legislation to harmonize efforts and achieve common objectives.
- Participate in external meetings to engage on key compliance topics, representing the interests of the service business and maintenance operations.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Master's degree or equivalent in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, engineering, or a closely related field.
- Extensive experience working with global regulations, including REACH, RoHS, EU WFD, TSCA, and Conflict Minerals.
- Working knowledge of materials used in high voltage transformers is an asset.
- Experience implementing global material compliance processes in interdisciplinary settings.
- Strong project management skills, with the capability to interface and collaborate on multiple complex projects.
- Proven experience in conducting chemical and compliance training for large audiences.
- Understanding of supply chain management and basics of master data management in high voltage and transformer applications, enabling effective work in a multifunctional team.
- Excellent presentation and writing skills, with experience presenting complex concepts to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and a continuous learning mindset.
