BU PGSV - Climate and Circularity Analyst

We are seeking a Climate and Circularity Analyst to join our Global Sustainability Team in the Service Business Unit.

In this role, you will be part of the implementation of our global sustainability strategy, with a focus on achieving a net-positive impact on nature. Reporting to the Global Sustainability Manager, you will play a crucial role in shaping sustainability within the service organization in the electricity transmission and distribution industry

Key Responsibilities:

Data Analysis and Greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)Reporting:

  • Conduct detailed analysis of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions data for the service organization:
    • Scope 1 emissions: Direct GHG emissions from company-owned or controlled sources.
    • Scope 2 emissions: Indirect GHG emissions from purchased electricity, steam, heat, and cooling.
    • Scope 3 emissions: All other indirect emissions in the value chain.
  • Collaborate with other business units and corporate sustainability team to understand and contribute to the definition of Scope 3 emissions for the service business, contributing to the definition of processes and accounting standards for the service organization.
  • Define and measure Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions specifically for service-related jobs, such as maintenance, repair, and operational activities. Ensure accurate data collection and analysis to capture emissions from service vehicles, equipment usage, and other service-related activities. Support the development of LCAs / EPDs / PCFs for our company's offered services.
  • Analyze GHG emissions data to identify trends and patterns over time, providing insights for strategic decision-making. This includes identifying hotspots, improvement areas, potential reduction activities, working with the product R&D teams to reduce the need for servicing, or feedback on observed product performance in the field to consider in their own improvement activities.
  • Evaluate and report on avoided emissions: Emissions savings that occur outside the company's value chain as a result of implementing sustainable practices or technologies. Contribute to the implementation of avoided emission standard calculations and processes for service-related activities in a systematic manner and according to defined processes based on Hitachi and Hitachi Energy guidance. This includes defining the scope and boundaries of avoided emissions calculations, selecting a baseline scenario, and gathering necessary data. Define a standardized methodology for the service organization. Contribute to the implementation and rollout of the data collection procedure, ensuring comprehensive reports are prepared and calculations are regularly updated for continuous improvement.
  • Collect and analyze data related to avoided emissions.
  • Report GHG emissions data to corporate sustainability team.

Circularity:

  • Contribute to defining circularity for the installed base, focusing on the 5R principles (rethink, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle, ).
  • Develop and implement metrics and processes to measure circularity performance and progress.
  • Identify and monitor best practices for circularity within the service organization and across the value chain.
  • Support the development of circular economy strategies and initiatives to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency based on measured data in the service organization.
  • Collaborate to monitor and integrate circularity principles (5R) into service business operations and product lifecycle management.

Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:

  • Report ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) disclosures, metrics, and sustainability reports to corporate sustainability team.
  • Ensure compliance with internal data policies.
  • Maintain detailed records of data sources, calculation methods, and assumptions used. Track data collection processes to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Innovation and Implementation:

  • Track KPIs and systems for monitoring impacts and progress toward sustainability goals, ensuring data accuracy and reliability.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance sustainability performance, with a strong emphasis on monitoring, verification, and data analysis.
  • Adopt industry best practices to drive innovation in sustainability efforts, ensuring these practices are effectively monitored and verified.

Stakeholder Engagement and Capacity Building:

  • Develop guidance materials and toolkits for staff and partners, and contribute to targeted training and workshops as appropriate.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's degree and/or PhD in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent technical data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge of international climate change policies, especially related to renewable energy and ecosystem-based approaches to climate change.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific sustainability challenges and climate reporting frameworks.
  • Proficiency in applying sustainability metrics, ESG standards, and ecosystem valuation methodologies, using science-based and quantitative methods.
  • Understanding of decarbonization, net zero, and circular economy strategies.
  • Capability to interface and collaborate on multiple complex projects, with strong project management skills.
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills, with experience in presenting complex concepts to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work and travel in a global, multidisciplinary team and collaborate/interact in complex stakeholder networks.
  • Experience with sustainability software tools and platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and a continuous learning mindset.
