We have openings for two roles: one in the Order Domain and one in the Pricing Domain. As the Principal Technical Architect, you and your fellow Architects will bring a systems-thinking perspective to guide interaction patterns both within and between your domains. Additionally, you will partner with Product and Engineering Directors and Tech Leads, introducing new ideas, technologies, and design patterns for enterprise-wide adoption and distribution. While there may be occasional opportunities to co-develop features with technical leads or other senior engineering roles, your responsibilities will mostly lie beyond development, focusing on what should be developed and how it should be built.
You will report to a Director or Senior Director of Architecture. This can be a hybrid/remote role based in our Chicago office.
You Will:
- Lead architecture deliverables for your Domain(s).
- Help teams' architect and engineer solutions across multiple technologies and platforms.
- Mentor Grainger technical leads, senior engineers, product leaders, engineering Managers
- Influence the technology executive lead team to pursue technology strategies and architecture specific to your Domain
- Research current and emerging technologies and propose changes where appropriate.
- Lead the implementation of architectural standards, capabilities, and governance for your Domain.
- Define capability and systems roadmap and key architectural tradeoffs across your Domain.
- Inform multiple stakeholders about any problems with the current technical solutions being implemented.
- Define the conceptual, logical, and transitional architectures.
- Participate in recruiting activities for senior technical talent.
- Steer architecture decisions within the design and architecture review process.
You Have:
- At least 12 years of industry experience in software engineering and architecture.
- Experience with engineering patterns and multiple implementations (on-prem and cloud) technical expertise.
- Bring a systems-thinking perspective, choosing the appropriate integration patterns between capabilities within their specific domain.
- Experience in Event-driven, Cloud-native architectures, Data and Analytics Architectures (including Lakehouse), and API design.
- Bachelor's degree in business (or Management), Computer Science, Engineering, related disciplines, or equivalent work experience
