KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead two direct reports on the accounting team responsible for bank reconciliations, treasury, and general accounting.
- Complete the month/year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, prepaids, capital assets/depreciation, inter-company transactions, foreign exchange, rebates, analysis, and financial statements.
- Oversight on all payroll accounting matters such as reconciliations of payroll taxes and benefits.
- Complete/review balance sheet account reconciliations, maintain general ledger accounts and analytical review
- Prepare monthly HST and sales tax review.
- Manage capital expenditures against approved capital appropriation requests and capitalization guidelines.
- Review, approval and balancing of accounts payable cheque runs, EFT, wires payments
- Monitor and correct end of day work flow alerts, and update daily foreign exchange rates
- Quarterly and annual reporting packages, audit kits and coordination of external audits
- Investigate and resolve inventory costing errors
- Comply with internal controls, monthly monitoring for adherence and assist with internal control development and modifications
- Calculation of customer rebates, cash application of vendor rebates and management fees, salary allocations and other analysis
- Provide financial support to the business units and Finance team
- Lead continuous improvement changes
- Participate with various projects
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a university degree, preferably in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or Commerce
- A professional accounting designation would be considered an asset (CPA - CMA, CGA or CA)
- Minimum of 5 years related experience, with a solid accounting background and full cycle accounting including month/year-end close with payroll experience
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills with an emphasis on Excel, experience with Macros would be considered an asset
- Ability to build or use queries in Power BI and Snowflake.
- Experience in Vormittag Associated (VAI) ERP system or any other ERP system would be an asset.
- Proven organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Strong decision making, process improvement, and change management skills
- Ability to deal with all levels of the organization and demonstrated skills in analyzing problems and handling issues with diplomacy
- Works well in a team environment
