The AVP Financial Reporting is responsible for the preparation of annual and quarterly SEC reports, preparation of parent company required reporting and review investor presentations. This team member will be the main point of contact with General Motors SEC Reporting for requests/questions. This team member will ensure that all actions are executed within the parameters, objective and guidelines established by management. This team member is responsible for the mentoring and management of the Financial Reporting Managers and Analysts.

Responsibilities

About the role:

  • Supervise the preparation and review the annual and quarterly SEC filings on Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and other SEC filings
  • Liaison between GM and GM Financial SEC Reporting teams
  • Review SEC filings for compliance with XBRL requirements
  • Coordinate with the external auditors and Financial Assurance team on quarterly reviews and year-end audits
  • Partner with Technical Accounting, GM and other teams to interpret, document and implement new and/or revised FASB standards and SEC regulations, as well as the accounting treatment for new or existing products and transactions
  • Collaborate with Investor Relations team on quarterly earnings releases and investor's presentations
  • Review financial information for unsecured debt transactions
  • Supervise, mentor and develop assigned personnel; allocates work and makes decisions regarding employment, training and development, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions
  • Responsible for creating efficiencies to reduce time frame for deliverables and leading transformation initiatives that impact the financial reporting function
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Conform with all company policies and procedures

Qualifications

What makes you a dream candidate:

  • Advanced knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Extensive knowledge of FASB standards and SEC regulations
  • Must understand XBRL reporting requirements
  • Must understand and be able to prepare financial statements
  • Working knowledge of Oracle accounting software, Cognos and Workiva (WDesk/WData/Connected Sheets) preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Strong time management, ability to establish priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, including ad hoc projects, while coaching/supervising staff
  • Computer literacy to include Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required

Experience

  • 7-10 years public accounting and/or corporate accounting experience required
  • 5-7 years SEC reporting/ technical accounting / preparing financial statements
  • 5-7 management or leadership experience
  • Experience in financial services industry preferred

Licenses

  • CPA, active license status Upon Hire
