As a Tool Maker you will work at the Parsippany, NJ Metem a GE Vernova business manufacturing plant and operate a variety of production equipment and tooling. You will also have ownership of safety, compliance, qualify, and productivity.
Join an exciting team designing, building, and repairing jigs and fixtures as well as providing shop support in many different ways. Work on manual mills, lathes, jig bore, surface and rotary grinders, saws, drill press, ProtoTRAK mills, CNC Mills, CNC Lathes, and heat treat ovens. Weld/fabrication & CAD/CAM experience a plus!

Job Description
What you'll do
- Work closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to develop custom tooling solutions that meet project needs.
- Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set-up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to make and repair cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures, gauges, and machinist hand tools, applying knowledge of tool design and construction, shop mathematics, metal properties, lay out, machining and assembly procedures.
- Study specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models or descriptions and visualizes product. Compute dimensions and plan lay out and assembly operations.
- Measure, mark and scribe metal stock for machining. Set-up and operate machine tools such as lathe, milling machine, grinder to machine parts and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Lift machined parts manually and position and hold them on surface plate or worktable using devices such as vises, V-blocks, and angle plates. Smooth flat and contoured surfaces using scrapers, abrasive stones and power grinders.
- Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearance using measuring instruments such as dial indicators gauge blocks, thickness gauges and micrometers. Heat treat tools and parts when necessary. Examine standard or previously used tools and decide on modifications to be made. Work to tight tolerances.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements in tool-making operations and contribute to efficiency enhancements.
- Actively contribute to Lean Kaizen events aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of production fixtures and processes.
What you'll bring (Basic Qualifications)
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of one-year experience in EDM/CNC or tooling production or manufacturing equivalent/shop experience.
- Ability to perform basic M&G code programming in MDI Mode
- Tramming: Deep knowledge of machine tool geometry and problem-solving skills to ensure machines are functioning properly
- Reconstruct Technical Drawings: Analyze and recreate detailed technical drawings and specifications from existing parts to support tooling and manufacturing processes.
Eligibility Requirements
- 2nd Shift: 230pm -10pm/1030pm
- Ability to lift/push/pull at least 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work overtime as required including occasional weekend shift.
- Knee mill/ Bridgeport/ Lathe/ Surface grinder and bandsaw usage
- Fixture a part, setting up work piece to cut on an angle
- Able to maintain High tolerance cuts +/- .002 inches
- Using traditional inspection techniques/gauges (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.)
- Interpret basic drawings requirements

The pay for this position is $29.50/hr. to $40.63/hr. This position is also eligible for a shift differential bonus of $1.00/hr. This posting is expected to remain open until at least March 5, 2025 and expected to close April 28, 2025.
