The Plant Programs Technical Leader works within the Advanced Applications Engineering group of the GE Hitachi Engineering organization. This team supports the design of advanced nuclear applications by developing first-of-a-kind (FOAK) plant program solutions and technologies that enable novel approaches to maintenance and reliability. Plant Programs is an interdisciplinary group of complex-problem solvers with an appetite for innovation and flexibility. The Technical Leader role is responsible for the planning and execution of work scope, as well as interfacing with both internal and external customer organizations.

All design engineers demonstrate accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks. Demonstrated personal responsibility and ability to understand design impact and associated risks are a must. We must be able to consider customer needs and maintain open communication with interfacing engineers and project stakeholders.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all reliability engineering activities for SSCs meet the requirements set by national and international regulations and utility customer program requirements.
  • Reliability Engineering: Utilize current revisions of nuclear power plant designs to develop and implement reliability engineering activities for all SSCs.
  • Risk Management: Balance the risk profile with overall maintenance operating costs to optimize reliability engineering activities.
  • Data Utilization: Use risk data from internal engineering teams and the EPRI Preventive Maintenance Basis Database (PMBD) to develop failure mode mitigation methods.
  • Failure Mode Mitigation: Complete a 1-1 failure mode to mitigation method analysis for every SSC in the new nuclear power plant.
  • Optimization: Optimize reliability engineering activities and develop a technical basis document to justify the selected asset strategies as part of the overall maintenance program.
  • Documentation: Generate detailed technical basis documents that provide a clear rationale for the chosen asset strategies.
  • Critical Thinking: Apply a high level of critical thinking and independence to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal engineering teams and other stakeholders to ensure the reliability and safety of the nuclear power plant.
  • Lead/facilitate discussion and information exchange to promote open dialogue including working effectively in a matrixed team environment.
  • Lead and work with cross-functional (other teams providing same discipline engineering service), cross-discipline (other teams developing interfacing technologies), and cross-organizational (customer and supplier) teams to develop conforming solutions.
  • Participate in and lead teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives.
  • Identify and take the initiative to resolve technical and organizational challenges.
  • Develop less experienced mechanical design engineers through coaching and feedback.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, relevant technical discipline, or relevant human performance discipline
  • A minimum of 10 years of direct experience in nuclear plant maintenance, including at least 5 years as a maintenance supervisor/manager; OR
  • A minimum of 10 years in commercial nuclear plant operations, including at least 7 years as an NRC licensed operator (RO/SRO) nuclear power plant maintenance.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Proven experience in reliability engineering and/or management of plant risk profiles.
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and proven leadership skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write organized engineering documents.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop effective failure mode mitigation methods.
  • Direct experience executing, administering, and/or managing nuclear In-Service Inspection (ISI) and In-Service Testing (IST) programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of national and international nuclear regulations and utility customer program requirements.
  • Proficiency in using the EPRI Preventive Maintenance Basis Database (PMBD).
  • Master's degree in an engineering or technical discipline.

The base pay range for this position is $112k-160k. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 11/1/2024.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
