Job Description Summary

The Lead ITR Plant Electrical Engineer is responsible for the technical content associated with new unit proposals & projects including BOP scope definition, analysis, costing evaluations, customer specification review, identifying scope deviations/clarifications, technical offering risk evaluation, and review of codes and standards (including grid code review). In this role, the ITR Engineer will also finalize equipment specifications and drawings, work with Sourcing on Vendor selection, provide field I&C support, and complete appropriate task to close out the project. During bid support and requisition engineering activities ITR electrical engineer will work closely with Sales, Engineering, EPCs, Supply Chain, and Customers.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Solid background in Balance of Plant Electrical systems/equipment and interfaces such as: Control house/PCM, LV & MV Switchgears & MCCs, Power Transformers, HV Switchyard, Black start diesel generator & control, Synch panel, Protection relaying, Battery systems and UPSs.
  • Hands on experience and knowledge of Industry recognized electrical codes & Standards as well as working knowledge of Electrical installation practices.
  • Familiar with plant level protection scheme design, setting calculation and relay coordination studies.
  • Ability to develop plant level electrical design documentation such as high level and detail plant HV, MV single lines & three-line w/protection, instrumentation & metering details, interlocking scheme as well as LV & DC distribution system for a complete power plant and HV substation.
  • Review and interpret customer inquiries, project requirements and specifications to establish scope of supply limits, develop details comments & clarifications, evaluate & define non-standard product request.
  • Ability to perform overall electrical system sizing, selection, and design practices, as well as power systems studies and analysis utilizing tools such as ETAP, SKM.
  • Design interconnect cabling and layout cable trays including BOM development.
  • Design plant lighting, grounding and lightning protection.
  • Work with vendors to obtain project-specific information and quotations, Review supplier's drawings and deliverables against customer requirements, local codes & standards as well as GE design practices.
  • Work with multi-functional engineering teams to develop conceptual solutions, technical work scope, and specifications for project applications.
  • Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.
  • Define, review, and manage technical proposal development and execution activities that include but not limited to product electrical system, plant electrical system, plant integration scheme to grid network, High Voltage substation design and development, protection system and industry standard AGC application, plant modeling to ensure grid code compliance.
  • Work directly with Customer, Sales, Commercial operations in negotiating technical and project scope definition, Proposal preparation & contract negotiation
  • Perform Plant Design Reviews of EPC developed technical engineering documentation.
  • Support Sourcing during Vendor evaluation and selection as part of the project execution process.
  • Provide technical support during Installation, Commissioning and start-up / testing activities.
  • Collate and close out all appropriate engineering activities including As Built and lessons learned with project team

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10 years of power engineering experience
  • Must be willing to work independently and be a self-starter.
  • Must be able/willing to travel, both domestically and internationally
  • Hands on experience with AutoCAD and power simulation tools such as ETAP, PSS/E etc.

Desired Characteristics

  • Minimum 15 years' experience in electrical engineering, power plant or power industry.
  • Aero Derivative Turbine Technology experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Able to work with different levels of management, vendors, customers, and cultures.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Outstanding written and verbal English communication skills (oral and written).
