Job Description Summary

GE Renewable - Grid Integration product line is globally recognized for designing, manufacturing, and delivering customized 66kV to 765kV Substations, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC), SVC & STATCOM solutions for utilities worldwide. Every solution is tailored and designed based on a project-by-project assessment of the customers' individual requirements, whether it's for connecting offshore/onshore wind generation, long distance power transmission, or energy trading between independent networks. Within this cross-centres and multicultural organization, the plant engineer is responsible to design optimized substation layouts that integrate all the required equipment considering their installation, operation, and maintenance constraints. He reports directly to engineering team leader.

The candidate shall execute with association of workgroups, where applicable, in order to meet assigned objectives. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance. In this role you will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term, medium planning.

Job Description

General responsibilities:

  • Execute & analyse, design, test, or integrate required to define and support systems that meet business standards and project requirements.
  • Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers for necessary approvals. Document and communicate results of technical data generated.
  • Participate on teams assigned to address specific projects assigned.
  • Share engineering information and promote open dialogue.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

Specific Role Requirements:

  • HV (Primary) designs Engineering for Grid Interconnected Renewable Energy Projects
  • Preparation of basic Single Line Diagram, Layout, Plan & section of Overall plant, Substation and control room arrangement, Earthing & cabling layouts etc
  • HV Equipment selection & sizing / Design of Earthing system / Cable system / Bus Bar Sizing / DSLP / Sag Tension calculation / Short-circuit force calculation / LT auxiliary system / Battery and charger Sizing / Illumination system and schedule as per IS/IEEE/IEC.
  • Load Flow Studies, System Loss Calculations, Short Circuit Analysis, and voltage drop calculations.
  • RFQ / Technical Validation / Evaluation of vendor Drawings & Documents
  • LV / MV Panel Engineering
  • components, selection of equipment with best pricing options.
  • Co-ordination and integration with Automation, Civil & MEP.
  • Co-ordination of site & office team for execution of project
  • Flexible and quick to learn global developments in renewable technologies and adopt.
  • Knowhow of IS / IEC codes, safety in design/EHS aspects, AC substation industry engineering practices.
  • Knowledge of Control & Protective Relaying and automation systems used in switchyards and MV/LV power distribution systems.

Specialized Competency (Add-on)

  • Understanding of Control & Protection schemes / Interlocking logics / SAS / DCS
  • Competency on specialized tools like PSCAD / EMTP / MATHCAD / E-TAP / Autogrid Pro
  • HVDC/FACTS integrated project applications.
  • Working experience with 3D Design Tools.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent, from an accredited college or university with a minimum 6-10 years of experience on project engineering. Strong understanding of Power System Engineering.

  • To be able to work on standard IT Tools for the everyday deliverables to the level of competency expected out of the role.
  • Proficient in use of MS Office / well worse with MS excel & Mathcad calculation tools
  • Exhibit Ownership; deliver shared responsibilities with team working.
  • Innovative, process oriented & ability to adapt as per the dynamics.
  • Fast Response time to meet shared objectives.
  • Exposure to QMS driven engineering processes.
