Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.
The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Interpret complex customer and engineering specifications, applying industry standards and best practices to develop robust electrical designs for low to medium voltage systems.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bills of materials using E-Plan and/or AutoCAD, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
  • Perform calculations for cable sizing, breaker selection, and component specifications, ensuring safe and efficient operation of electrical systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Collaborate closely with the manufacturing team to ensure seamless production processes, resolve design-related issues, and provide technical support during assembly and testing.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, UL) and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct and participate in design reviews, ensuring quality and customer satisfaction. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including bills of materials, schematics, and design specifications.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and project managers to gather requirements, resolve design conflicts, and ensure project success.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of design process improvements and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of relevant experience).
  • Proficiency in E-Plan and AutoCAD.
  • Minimum of 3 years of extensive experience in electrical hardware design for low to medium voltage systems.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations (NEC, IEC, UL).
  • Proven ability to perform cable sizing, breaker selection, and other electrical calculations.
  • Excellent understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and automation systems.
  • Experience with power electronics.
  • Experience with industrial control systems.
  • Experience with panel design and layout.
  • Experience leading design reviews.
