Reporting directly to the Construction Manager, this role involves coordinating subcontractors, managing resources, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental regulations, and ensuring the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Installation Lead must have a deep understanding of construction and be capable of managing complex, large-scale projects in remote or challenging environments.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Leadership and Team Management: Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead and manage on-site construction teams, subcontractors, and workers. Ensuring seamless coordination, fostering a collaborative environment, and motivating teams to meet safety, quality, and project goals.
  • Safety and Compliance Expertise: In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, protocols, and industry standards in construction. Demonstrated experience in enforcing safety measures and promoting a safety-first culture on the job site to minimize risks and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety laws.
  • Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting: Strong ability to quickly identify, analyze, and resolve complex construction issues. Proficient in managing logistical challenges, resolving equipment malfunctions, and addressing site access or material delivery delays to ensure minimal project disruption.
  • Effective Communication and Coordination: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey project status, safety protocols, and technical requirements to all stakeholders. Strong collaboration with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Project and Site Management: Excellent project management abilities, with expertise in planning, scheduling, and supervising multiple tasks and subcontractors simultaneously in fast-paced and dynamic construction environments.

Qualifications:

  • Trade Qualifications and Experience: Must hold a recognized trade qualification relevant to the role and demonstrate a minimum of ten years hands-on experience in the mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation fields, with a proven track record of success in the construction industry. Extensive field experience is essential for this role.
  • Supervisory Experience: At least five years of experience working as a supervisor or in an equivalent leadership position, overseeing the performance of construction teams and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality work.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. However, substantial, and relevant work experience in lieu of formal education will be considered.
  • Proficiency in Construction Software: Hands-on experience with advanced construction management tools and software. Familiarity with project tracking systems, resource allocation tools, and scheduling software to monitor project progress and optimize workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site and Project Management: Oversee and coordinate all on-site operations related to wind turbine construction, including the assembly of components, tower erection, turbine installation, and the completion of both electrical and mechanical systems. Ensure that the project adheres to strict timelines, budgetary constraints, and quality standards.
  • Subcontractor and Vendor Coordination: Lead and manage subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and site laborers to ensure work is performed efficiently and aligns with the overall project scope. Conduct performance reviews and resolve issues related to resource allocation or subcontractor delays.
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance: Enforce safety protocols to ensure all workers are adhering to safety regulations and environmental guidelines. Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and implement corrective actions to address any hazards identified on-site.
  • Schedule and Timeline Management: Closely monitor project schedules, make necessary adjustments for weather conditions, delivery delays, or unforeseen challenges, and proactively communicate schedule changes. Ensure project milestones and deadlines are consistently met throughout the construction phases.
  • Quality Assurance and Control: Perform on-site quality inspections to ensure construction work complies with engineering specifications, manufacturer guidelines, and industry standards. Address any quality issues or discrepancies immediately and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for all project stakeholders, including construction managers, technical advisors, quality teams, and subcontractors. Provide regular updates, progress reports, and address any concerns or challenges impacting the project's success.
  • Problem-Solving and Issue Resolution: Respond quickly and efficiently to any on-site problems, including resolving equipment breakdowns, managing supply chain issues, and addressing unforeseen obstacles. Work collaboratively with all teams to develop and implement solutions that keep the project on track.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of daily activities, safety inspections, incident reports, project delays, and any changes in scope. Prepare and submit comprehensive reports to management, highlighting any issues or concerns that could affect project progress.
  • Mentorship and Team Development: Act as a mentor to on-site staff, helping to develop their skills and advance their careers. Provide training, guidance, and support to team members, ensuring high performance and a strong team culture focused on collaboration and professional growth.

Work Environment:

  • Location: This role will be based at remote or rural project sites, which may involve travel to different locations, with the potential for extended periods away from home. You should be comfortable working in isolated areas and adapting to diverse site conditions.
  • Physical Demands: The role involves exposure to harsh weather conditions, extended hours, and physically demanding tasks. This includes climbing wind turbines, performing manual labor, and working in high-altitude environments.
  • Work Schedule: Flexibility is key, as you will be required to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary to meet project deadlines and milestones. Ability to adapt to a changing schedule and work environment is essential.
