We are looking for a Design Office Director that will play a critical role in driving technology differentiation and ensuring the highest standards in design and engineering within Grid Automation. Reporting to the CTO, this leader will be responsible for leading a diverse team of consulting engineers, design architects, and technical experts, shaping the technology roadmap and integrating cutting-edge innovations into product development. This role requires a deep technical foundation, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to influence both internal teams and external industry standards. The Design Office Director will also represent Grid Automation in industry events and working groups.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of Grid Automation technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
- Define long-term technology goals in collaboration with Product Line Leaders and senior leadership, ensuring designs are scalable, sustainable, and forward-thinking
- Drive innovation by identifying emerging technologies for products/solutions differentiation and tools to enhance product development and design processes
- Participate in standard working groups and promote Grid Automation at industry events
- Establish and enforce engineering rigor across all design and development activities, ensuring highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance are maintained
- Act as the authority on design and engineering practices, making critical decisions on design methodologies and technical standards, ensuring adherence to best practices, scalability, performance, and security in all Grid Automation solutions
- Partner closely with product management and engineering teams to ensure that product/solution requirements are clearly defined and met through effective design and architecture
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of consulting engineers and design architects, fostering a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement
- Define and assess technical capabilities needs for Grid Automation to execute the new product introduction long-term plan in collaboration with PL Leaders
- Communicate complex technical solutions, progress updates, and design decisions effectively to senior management, customers, and other non-technical stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in software development, control and automation systems, or related technical fields, with at least 7 years in a leadership role
Desired Characteristics:
- Proven experience driving technology roadmaps, managing engineering teams, and overseeing complex design and architecture projects
- Strong background in leading multidisciplinary teams, including consulting engineers and design architects
- Expertise in protection, monitoring, control, or automation product development, designing and deploying scalable, high-performance products and solutions
- In-depth knowledge of design and engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices
- Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills with a track record of leading multidisciplinary, high-performing teams
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Deep expertise in software development methodologies (e.g. Agile), architectural design, and automation processes
- Experience with microservices architecture, containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Experience in AI, machine learning, or data analytics in the context of automation
The base pay range for this position is 152,400.00 - 210,000.00 USD Annual. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a 15% variable incentive bonus annually. This posting is expected to close on 3/26/25.
