Maven is seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Product Design to join our team. In this role, you will set long-term design goals, lead innovation, and uphold high design standards across large teams. You will ensure strategic alignment and a cohesive vision while inspiring and mentoring senior designers and managers. With your experience in consumer-facing design, you will focus on enhancing user engagement and retention, leading to better overall experiences across all platforms. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, and senior leadership to drive the vision, strategy, and execution of Maven’s product design.
As a Director of Product Design at Maven, you will:
- Set Long-Term Design Goals: Define and communicate a long-term design vision that aligns with Maven’s goals, driving the design direction across multiple projects and ensuring user-centered, high-impact experiences.
- Lead Innovation: Lead the charge for innovation, fostering a design culture that thrives on creative problem-solving, consumer engagement, and user-centered solutions.
- Uphold High Design Standards: Maintain and elevate design quality across teams and platforms (Web, iOS, Android), focusing on user retention, engagement, and visual consistency.
- Direct Initiatives: Oversee and drive multiple projects with a focus on strategic alignment and ensuring each initiative contributes to Maven’s broader goals.
- Ensure Cohesive Vision: Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the design direction is clear, cohesive, and aligned with both business objectives and user needs.
- Influence Broader Team Strategy: Work with senior leadership to influence the broader design strategy, helping to set priorities and defining the direction for the product design function.
- Lead and Inspire Teams: Inspire and lead design managers, senior designers, and cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional work. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to ensure growth and success across the team.
- Cultivate Creativity and Accountability: Foster a culture where creativity and accountability go hand-in-hand. Ensure the team has the freedom to innovate while maintaining responsibility for high-quality outcomes.
- Promote Organizational Values: Promote Maven’s values—accessibility, inclusivity, and innovation—across the design teams, driving a culture of excellence and alignment with the company's mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a growing design team, including managers and senior designers, driving innovation and setting a high bar for design quality and consumer-facing impact.
- Define and communicate the strategic design vision, ensuring that it aligns with company goals and guides cross-functional work, particularly in driving engagement and retention.
- Oversee the execution of multiple related projects, balancing user needs, business objectives, and technical requirements with a strong emphasis on user engagement.
- Drive design operations, processes, and systems, ensuring efficient workflows, scalability, and quality.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and senior leadership to ensure design is deeply integrated into the product development process, focusing on consumer-facing outcomes.
- Establish and maintain design best practices, design systems, and documentation to ensure consistency, scalability, and strong visual design across platforms.
We’re looking for you to bring:
- 9+ Years of Experience: Proven experience in product design, with at least 5 years in leadership roles, managing teams and driving strategic design initiatives, particularly in consumer-facing products with a focus on user engagement and retention.
- Visionary Design Leadership: Ability to set a long-term design vision and inspire teams to achieve it, all while maintaining high design standards and fostering a culture of innovation and engagement.
- Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic mindset, with the ability to align design work with business goals and influence broader product and company strategy, particularly in consumer-facing contexts.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring, and growing design teams, particularly senior designers and managers, with a focus on collaboration and driving engagement.
- Exceptional Design Skills: Deep expertise in interaction, visual design, and user experience across platforms (Web, iOS, Android), with an emphasis on creating engaging, visually compelling experiences.
- Collaboration and Communication: Ability to build strong relationships across functions and communicate design decisions clearly to senior leadership and other stakeholders.
- Passion for Healthcare: A commitment to making a meaningful impact in women’s and family healthcare through innovative, human-centered design.
For candidates in NYC, CO, or CA, the base salary range for this role is $225,000 - $260,000 per year. You will also be entitled to receive stock options and benefits. Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, and skillset.
Maven embraces a flexible hybrid work model. Our Engineering & Product teams primarily operate from Seattle, WA, San Francisco/Bay Area, CA, and the New York Metropolitan area, NY. For those in our New York City office, we encourage in-person collaboration by requiring team members to work onsite three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). This policy aims to balance remote work flexibility with the benefits of face-to-face interaction.
