Consulting Services, a part of GE Vernova, has offices in multiple countries and offers our global clients (external & internal GE) a wide range of solutions across the entire spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization. Our Grid Integration and Stability team utilizes their deep knowledge of generation and transmission equipment, power grid requirements, design, operation, and life-cycle management, to offer customized solutions to our global clients. Our Power Economics team offers analyses focused on the understanding and the study of the financial and physical operation of the electric power systems including generation and grid planning, system optimization, asset valuation, competitive power markets and energy policy implications. Over 700 entities worldwide use our Concorda Suite of software tools to assess the economics, performance, and reliability of interconnected power systems.

As a member of the Consulting Services team, the successful candidate will be an active contributor to the GE Vernova business initiatives related to power systems engineering, equipment, and services.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support customers with power systems engineering expertise; including modeling, analysis, equipment design and specification, and failure mode analysis.
  • Steady state and dynamic modeling of utility systems and industrial systems and performing the analysis related to network adequacy, system stability, power quality, unit protection and relay coordination, islanding and load shedding schemes, special protection schemes etc using the simulation tools like ETAP, PSLF, PSS/E or similar.
  • Perform power system transient studies, and detailed equipment modeling using appropriate software tools (E,g, PSCAD, EMTP, DigSilent etc).
  • Perform technical analysis related to planning studies, power electronic and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, and large industrial drives.
  • Build the RMS and EMT models for conventional machines and Inverter based resouces and their controls in different software tools like PSS/E, PSCAD, DigSILENT Power Factory etc.
  • Excellent analytical and logical interpretation skills
  • Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing detailed written reports or presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions.
  • Enhance industry knowledge and be aware of present technical developments in terms of technical standards and grid codes in the region and global front.
  • Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or power systems with minimum 2 years to maximum 4 years of work experience
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer/plant staff).
  • Work experience of performing power system analysis using simulation tools like ATP/EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP-RV, and/or performing steady state and dynamic analysis using large data base simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory or PSLF
  • Willingness to travel to support project work (up to 10-15%).

Desired Characteristics

  • Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, electric power engineering, or related field of study.
  • Experience creating and modifying dynamic user models in simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory and PSLF.
  • Experience in creating and modifying dynamic models for use in simulation tools like ATP/EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP-RV.
  • Experience with the use and application of common programming languages (e.g. Python, FORTRAN, MATLAB)
  • Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering to real-world electric power system problems.
